Famous author Arthur C. Clarke once said, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Famous game developer David Jaffe once said, "New hardware is like new pussy." Truly, the spirit of Clarke is born anew!
The God of War director has been speaking highly of Sony's PSP successor, the NGP, revealing that he wants one. However, he also shared his concerns for the techlust that envelops us all, equating new and exciting gizmos to new and exciting baby-squirters.
"New hardware is like new pussy," said the Lou Reed for a new generation. "It's exciting at first but after you've experienced enough fresh vagina over the years -- while there's still always a bit of excitement when something new comes along -- you learn that sooner than later, the new and exciting becomes the standard and dependable and so it's best to just stay focused and [grateful] on what you've got at the moment and if you need to make a change, it'll just happen organically."
Jaffe added that EDGE magazine could use that quote, as he made it just for them. I'm a little upset he didn't think of me, but screw it -- quoted him anyway.
Did I do journalism right?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
You did journalism right Jim. Yes you did.
Coming from the guy that has a problem with the word "fag" only cements my feelings of him being a hypocrite. Between him and Cliffy B. there's enough macho attitude for the whole games biz.
Like really?! Dude.
Come on now. And this from the guy that gave Anthony Burch flack for his casual use of gay epithets?
WTF?
Really?
This demoralizes women? He was basically saying that, with age and wisdom, one realizes that constantly chasing new pussy isn't worthwhile.

I don't think what David Jaffe said was sexist. Crass, sure, but if Dtoid is going to start attacking crass comments, I'll have to get out the hypocrite alarm.
It's not like he said "Women are shit and only good for fucking." He said he likes pussy. I'm willing to bet the majority of the commenters in this thread do as well. Call me naive, but I don't see anything particularly harmful in stating that.
If anything, he basically said the constant desire for more sex with different women is unsatisfying and worthless. I think that's quite a positive message, wrapped up in a harmlessly vulgar way.
I'm sure you'd find more than a few women who have similar perspectives on fresh cock.
I mean really, are we just angry at somebody for valuing the naughty bits of the sex he's interested in?
Pffft!
I know what you're trying to do
Hrrmmmmmmmmm
@Holmes:
That's pretty much perfectly correct
Not to say Jaffe actively hates and supresses women as a thing he does. But if he's referring to women casually as "pussy", doesn't that perpuate ideas of diminished humanity just as much or if not more than Anthony's casual use of "fag"?
Guy said what he said, people respond as they respond and I'll agree the statement has "crass" as it's best identifying description.
But, in terms of the running dialog about gaming being a boys club or a generally off putting environment for women, there is one more thing someone can add to their list of bulletpoints.
As someone that likes to see gaming and gamers break it's own stereotypes, statements like these are a manor bummer, to put it lightly.
"The whole pussy/NGP comment...uhm...it was meant to be over the top obnoxious peeps. So stupidly offensive that it was amusing. I was not using the simile for any reason other than that. I think I genuinely like to push the buttons of uptight people. They annoy me greatly :)."
He's a crass bloke, people need to accept that. Personally I just laughed at it. I thought it was funny. Don't take things so seriously.
The PSP Go is a no-brainer: why do you think it's called the Go?
The NGP though? That thing would probably tear open some important tissue. You can't just patch that to make it work again. And you wondered what the bottom touch-pad was for...
Davydock and Egypt business made me think of Jaffa :(
