Remember how I told you Jack "video games are zee devil" Thompson was on FOX News yesterday taking advantage of the Virginia Tech tragedy to push his own agenda? Well, thankfully one of our dedicated readers, Kennigit, sent over the video of the appearance. Take a look and fill your rage meter.

just posturing a question, if someone were to sharpen the end of an old NES cartridge into a shiv and stab jack thompson with it, would that make him correct in his views? the irony would be priceless.

but i could never do such a thing, i don't play video games, therefore i am as peaceful and docile as buddha.

people its clear we all need to take out Jack Thompson, so everyone needs to get together, train on doom for weeks straight, then we can be certain we will not miss.

If all these "Murder Simulators" are training these kids to kill, we ought to send all of the best Halo players to Iraq. War solved.

Seriously sorry about the long post but this man never tires of making me sick. Games are not murder simulators, they do not train anybody to kill!
Take Columbine for example (The Massacre that they tried (and failed) to link to doom) - Two months after Carneal carried out the school shootings he was interviewed by Dr. Dewey Cornell, a psychologist who is director of the Virginia Youth Violence project, and Dr. Diane H. Schetky, a forensic psychiatrist.
From the notes:
They thought he had never fired a gun, but they were very wrong. He had learned to shoot while at 4-H camp the summer of his "groundation" and that autumn he had stolen his father's .38-caliber handgun from a box in a closet. Although his father says in the deposition that the gun was securely locked and that it had no ammunition, Michael says (in the notes), "They had it in cheap padlock with combination on the back." He took the gun and hid it in a crate in his room, putting a book in the gun box to make it heavy so no one would know the gun was gone.
Not only that but at least two other students saw him with guns at school before the shootings.
So that rules out video game training, as he already had the real thing to play with.

Continued.....

And don't get me started on Jeff Weise and the red lake shootings, the trouble is this post is already way to long.
People should start listening to real experts and not the likes Jack Thompson or Dave Grossman (sorry I know I am soiling this comments section just mentioning their names), these people just distract attention from the real causes and also worryingly use their so called expertise to try to lesser killers sentences.
Someone who is a real expert though is Dr. Helen Smith who is a forensic psychologist in Knoxville, Tennessee. She has evaluated over five thousand mentally-disturbed children and adults, and has become an expert on kids who kill. She did a national survey of violent and nonviolent kids, which means she had the opportunity to hear what kids themselves had to say.
Smith objects to the way many experts blame violent television, mental disturbance (the "bad seed"), video games or some rock group's edgy lyrics for the school killings. Those experts, she contends, aren’t listening to the kids. She believes that violence comes from the accumulation of many distorted thoughts and stressors that finally send a child over the edge. In short, it's the way he or she processes what they see, hear, and experience. Kids who use violence to solve a problem have already had a number of violent thoughts. They perceive their environment and their situation in such a way that violence seems the best mode of action. That is, children who kill are predisposed to kill. They don’t just snap. They have a restricted view of other people’s rights and they feel they must bring their situation to some dramatic conclusion.

Continued again.........

While school nerds who were bullied once chose the course of suicide as the way out, now they see another way to take action and get attention: strike out. Using guns and being violent toward others moves them from powerlessness to power, from nobodies to media celebrities.
Obviously the media are going to go with what sells and unfortunately this means that they are always going to go with hype and exaggeration. So it is sadly not surprising when legislators attack fictional and fantasy images of violence portrayed in media products instead of dealing with actual crime.

Jack has got videogames and gamers for that matter all wrong. I play violent video games so I dont go around killing people. Shooting virtual characters in a game is a way taking some of the stresses of the day of my shoulders. The world is full of fucked up people and to think that violent video games causes antisocial assholes to go on a killing spree is just plain wrong. I think that if we didnt have these types of games, this kind of stuff would happen more often. And just remember that when I chainsaw you in GoW I dont actually plan on going to your house and hacking you to pieces.

My favorite was his interview on hard copy, i think. Sen. Thompson (people actually voted for this guy) says his favorite bible story is david and goliath, and when the interviewer points out that it ends with david lopping off goliath's head jack actually flintched, and when asked would you let your kids play a david and goliath game, he really had no response. How does a man like this get on tv?? You some kid is going to get all his halos and dooms confiscated and grounded when his moron parents hear this shit.

there's one thing that little jack spits out of mouth (well probably a few but i was reading some of the comments you guys wrote and forgot them cos i haven't been playing Brain Training) he points out the fact that there are more guns than people in America and still goes on to state that Video games are the problem.
I bet he thinks Joining the Army is a very Respectful and Honorable thing to do, so if you wanna go on some kind of killing spree go get real army training and use that.
I think i should go on a killing spree and then they'll be fucked for excusses the Majority of my games are things like Mario games, gran turismo, OH! NO! i have Metal Slug but at this point in time i'm mostly playing WING ISLAND i'm getting good at it too, does that mean i can now fly a plane put out fires and fertilize crops?
I like how after his little speach about prayer he almost instantly snapped out of his fit of crying.

The video game industry continues to dominate Hollywood in terms of sales and exposure. Mr. Thompson is just looking for an easy target (aka whoever is on top must be the culprit). Religious right-wing "do-gooders" have always had weak arguments that appeal to the couch potato public. Lots of talking and no walking (Fox News seems to do the walking for Thompson every time). There tons of Jack Thompsons out there - it's our job to let our loved ones know that these hackjobs need to go down. You too, Dr. Phil - you needs to be out, holmes.

I had recently went to Best Buy to pick up GTA: San Andreas (PC, don't ask) and I was actually carded at the register. I basically look 10 years younger than my actual age, so I didn't get all pissed. I commended the cashier and mentioned Jack Thompson to her and she was very interested to hear my rant about how that school shootings expert might one day take some video game titles off the shelves and piss off masses of gamers like myself. But as long as retailers and parents uphold to the ESRB regulations somehow, we will be needing a lot less of big daddy Jack Thompson.

Another quick thought. I want to see this asshole roll up into a public school in my hood to tackle violence. He wouldn't even have half the balls to even consider it. NYC public schools have had metal detectors, frisking and cops for years. Who's to blame here, Jack? Pokemans? DDR in gym class? He could care less about the problems that have plagued the inner city for decades (yet it correlates with his current agenda). A little out there, sorry...

Some great comments here, Dtoid. Dig all of them. Keep the ignorance in check.

actually, these are the recent facts about the shooter.

http://newsbloggers.aol.com/2007/04/17/cho-seung-huis-plays/

this is the 3rd article I read his plays, it seems the killer was a loner silent type who sticked to himself always. Most of his conditions showed on school play's and English papers.

If you read them you wouldnt have thought twice to report him to the Dean or a police person. If anyone in your class tends to be like this guy, please report to higher personel to avoid similar tragedy.

It is really sad this happened, and this JT guy doesn't waste any time to make him self appear on the news and blame it on VideoGames. according to the facts, IF anyone is to be blamed on the SCHOOL itself for not taking action or even the STUDENTS them self for not reporting him.

Those papers are not from a normal mind set, they didn't even have a metaphor or point to get across, they just showed anger, violence, death, sex, and most of all a huge hatred between the characters...

OH! I played Pheonix Wright today does that make me a lawyer?

I can't remember who made the comment about Movies and TV being around longer than Video games but the problem is that Jack Thompson and Dr Phil Need TV to get their Point across and get their EASY MONEY, anyone can grow a 'tache and tell people what they need to hear to make them feel Better, worse,or fearful like Dr Phil does.
OK i play video games, watch movies, and listen to "HEAVY METAL" music, in the 28 years i've been alive these things have been blamed for causing Suicides, and killings and they are usually used seperately never at the same time.
so if someone can listen to metal music they become suicidal and movies and video games make you want to murder people, i must be a total Bloody Psycho.

And try not to swear in your posts about JT or Dr Phil...
...well any "SCHOOL SHOOTING" experts because they'll probably use that to show people that we're all uncivilised.

OH! NO! i play World Of Warcraft! i now feel the urge to travel to the nearest Steel works and Slaughter Dwarves.

Video games have nothing to do with producing psycopaths. In 1966 at University of Texas, a former student killed 31 people before being killed by police (now the 2nd most deadly school shooting). Did they have FPS games in 1966? Yeah didn't think so.

It is much easier to profit off of school shootings and then blaming violent entertainment mainly video games to make a living as a lawyer.
