Jack Thompson, guilty man: 27 of 31 misconduct charges recommended by judge photo

Jack Thompson, controversial attorney and hater of Grand Theft Auto has been recommended guilty in twenty-seven of his thirty-one misconduct charges by Judge Dava Tunis.

Last year, the madcap defense attorney was on trial for charges of misconduct, many of which revolved around his obsession with violent videogames. Tunis has recommended that 27 of the charges be upheld by the Florida Supreme Court, which will make the official ruling:

After considering the arguments presented by the Florida Bar and the Respondent (Thompson), observing the Respondent's demeanor during the nine-day trial proceedings, and carefully reviewing the record consisting of four volumes of exhibits totaling 1700 pages and approximately 2400 pages of transcribed testimony, the Court finds that the facts, circumstances and evidence presented regarding the Respondent's conduct, supports a finding of guilt as to certain Florida Bar rules...

Among the guilty acts are knowingly making false statements in court, dishonest or fraudulent practices and making statements intended only to embarrass or burden other parties rather than contribute anything of use. Sounds like she knows our mutual friend well, eh?

Of course, Thompson continues to prove Tunis right by attacking her and the Florida Bar. While he stomps his feet and shouts, the Supreme Court now holds the testes of Jack's career in its mighty grip. Let's see if they get popped.

Erm... so... what now? Does he pay a fine? Is he disbarred?

Luzer: The Supreme Court makes the final ruling, but this damning recommendation from the Judge that presided over his trial should pretty much tell you what will happen. If disbarred, he loses his license to practice law.

if this happens, the world will most likely become an overall nicer place to live

and game comic artists will have a field day mocking him

Does anyone else find it ironi9c that - as a defense lawyer - it is his JOB to lie in order to keep criminals OUT of jail, not put them IN it?

I smell hypocrite.

I've always wondered, if indeed testes are popped, would they actually pop or would they collapse inwards like balls of mince?

You've got to give it to Jack. He's no pussy- When he goes crazy, he goes full-out. 27 if 31 is like, 87% That's a B+.

I will laugh/cry when the TV media continues to put him in front of a camera to talk about video games well after he is disbarred and discredited. anything for a soundbite...

Armchair analysis:

I don't think Jack Thompson actually hates videogames per se, I think that videogames, through some random chance, just happened to occupy the variable of his obsessive negative focus on "something".

If it wasn't games with him, it would have been something else. It just happened to be games that his crazy mind latched onto.

When he loses his license, he'll just be able to focus on killing video games 24/7. I'd rather he gets to keep the license and remain amusing to both the gamer and lawyer communities.

I agree with KMCC.

I don't think Jack actually hates videogames, I just think he LOVES the spotlight being on him. This is the way he chose to get his 15 minutes of fame and now his tired act is about to get him smacked down by the court.

You reap what you sow, as they say.

That's fantastic. But if any of you seriously think this will silence him, you are out of your mind. Someone like him doesn't need a law degree to make trouble for companies and gamers. He will persist, probably until his inevitable death-by-heart-attack.

If he loses his license to practice law, do you think he'll shut up about violent video games? Probably not. Just because he'll no longer be a lawyer doesn't mean he can't go on TV and call himself an expert on school shootings.

In the immortal words of Jack Palance:
"You're...my number one guy...Jack"

I'm sorry your livelyhood is about to go up in flames, but you've stepped on too many victims backs, and caused enough trouble to my favorite industry. Good riddance to bad liar-er, lawyers. Please, leave a comment for us Dtoiders. You took the time to register. For those that are curious and want more info on the process, I thought I would post some of Florida's past disciplinary statistics from the Florida bars website. Also, check out the link to the standards for imposing sanctions (on the left side). It will be interesting to see what the Florida Supreme Court decides.
