I swear, half the people I talk to that saw Avatar said that "they couldn't see it" or some nonsense like that. Or those Magic Eye puzzles, as seen above. Open your f'n eyes, people!
I guess I've heard it enough that I believe that some have trouble seeing the 3D effect. That's why I don't have too much faith in the consumer electronics industry's push toward 3D viewing and gaming. But Nintendo is going to release their portable 3D enabled game system, codenamed "3DS," anyway.
What's funny about this is that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admits that some have trouble seeing the 3D effect. According to 1UP, In a recent financial call to investors he said, ""This isn't limited to just kids, but we're aware one in some tens of people, including adults, has difficulty with three dimensional visuals."
"So, while the 3D image is a special feature of the 3DS, we won't force the player to use the 3D functionality. By making it so that the player can at all times play with [the 3D feature] off, we believe we can comply with those who have difficulty with the 3D view or those who are worried about their child's eyes."
Why would one with eye health concerns even buy a 3DS? And why play a 3D game when its switched off from its 3D mode? Doesn't it seem like this system is targeted too sharply?
I'm all for Mario jumping out of the screen and punching my face, but I can't see this having mass appeal. Then again, I said that about motion control and touchscreen game systems too.
Here's hoping I don't have to employ the same method on the not-really-named-3DS...kinda messes up my eyes for a few seconds after looking at a Magic Eye picture.
I had no problem with seeing Avatar in 3D... but I also had the 3D glasses on.... but I've always had problems with seeing the "other" picture in things like the sample you've given.
So somebody tell me... what's it a picture of???
Then again, Nintendo might just be testing the waters by making the 3D be (to all appearances) an 'optional' feature of the system, but later on beginning to use it extensively in each of their games on the handheld. An apt analogy, I suppose, would be how the touch screen was almost completely ignored in the first generation of DS games, but how it began to be an integral part of the game playing experience later on.
Regardless, I guess the 3DS doesn't really have any unique features. I see it as the Gameboy Advance to our Gameboy Color - it just looks better than what we have now.
And personally, I'd love a new DS with PSP-ish sized screens and Gamecube-era graphics.
You have to imagine you're looking behind the picture instead of directly at it. Like when you're looking at something far away and your eyes relax...
The Red & Blue stuff always just gave me a headache.
I did see the 3D stuff in Avatar but barely on Alice :D
... then again I do have bad eyesight and have worn glasses forever (and am currently now at the bifocal stage).
I could NEVER do those things!

A true skill! my only skill :(
Can someone show me where the problem is here?
The only people who can't see stereoscopic 3D effects as used in modern movies are people with severely impaired vision (or no vision at all) in one of their eyes. Well, that and the idiots who are so stupid they think they're watching the "3D" version when they're actually watching the standard one.

Last time I tried to view 3D was when they first brought it out, I have not tried since, so maybe the technology has improved and it will work for me now, no idea.
My point is, this giant industry push for 3D gaming and how it is the wave of the future will screw a lot of people that probably just do not speak up and say "Hey, I cannot see 3D, stop doing this". They are a minority right now and therefore majority will enjoy this new 3D craze.
i mean i see it of course its just to... compare
