Destructoid is obsessive about gaming news.

Aww, play nice, boys!

Koei president Kenji Matsubara has made it quite clear that, despite his own company having no history of issues with ex-Tecmo designer Tomonobu Itagaki, there will be no place for him after Tecmo and Koei merge.

Considering Itagaki left Tecmo under a cloud of bitterness and lawsuits, I doubt the controversial Ninja Gaiden creator will care much, but there were rumors that he might return to the fold. Matsubara has put paid to such gossip by definitively stating that there would be "no possibility" of the shades-adorned loudmouth being employed by Koei Tecmo Holdings.

Cue Itagaki attempting his own indie company in 3 ... 2 ...

As long as we still get Dynasty Warriors Extreme Beach Volleyball, it's all good.

Way to murder your source of money and respect, guys. Sure he was a douche, but all I can remember to come out of the companies involved recently is Ninja Gaiden and Dynasty Warriors, which while Mister Sterling and others, I'm sure, enjoy and respect, I and many others certainly do not. But he will most likely try his own indie company just like any dev separated form the company that had any amount of fame or respect....

Except Denis Dyack. He has none of either, only infamy and hate. Fuck him.

Maybe the next Ninja Gaiden game will actually be good, instead of a game that relies on pattern memorization, unlike NG2 which was a buggy mess w/ tons of cheap character deaths.

He should use the downtime to make a few download games and show them both what's what in this arena.

I think if they merge DW and NG they will come out with a decent game.

"Wonder what Itagaki's been up to"

Isn't it obvious? He's making a PS3 game.

He's better off out of Koei Tecmo, as its highly unlikely they'll actually be making any different games.

I could easily be wrong, but Koei hate taking any risks beyond DW (a series that needs a break from itself). You can smile upon them all you want J Sterling, but in the grand scheme of games, DW is junk (and rehashed junk at that).

The Tecmo side will be most of what they do, as they have more varied IP across more platforms

well, i think capcom or konami should sign itagaki-sama and give him his own studio...
if not, he should make his own development studio.

When Jim mentioned Itagaki starting an indie company, my mind instantly flooded with images of JellyCar with big tits. I'm not really sure how I felt about it...

If more people had bought Gitaroo Man, maybe we'd have seen more risks.

After what happened to Koei's original franchises, their whoring of DW is practically justified.

am I the only person who misses this guy?(Itagaki)
I happen to be one who LOVED NG1 and NG2. The combat kicks all other action game's ass. I mean who hasn't imagined a third person action game with huge move lists, multiple weapons, tons of blood, and a darn good challenge? Sure it wasn't perfect(camera was funky...tolerable, but funky), but what game is?!

As big of an ass as he may be(which I don't mind), he was one developer who was adament about making a hardcore game for the hardcore gamer. He brought us possibly the best combat in an action game with NG2, and lets not forget a great fighting game that goes by the name of Dead or Alive.

If it isn't obvious...I'm all up on this guy's junk because I want another Itagaki game. With today's hardcore games being primarily shooters, its a breath of fresh air when you get a classic beat-em-up like game (ie. kill all enemies) and make it work with next-gen technology. Honestly, who is really looking forward to Ninja Blade? Hmm? Any hardcore gamer actually think it'll be better than NG2?

Please Itagaki, ease my soul and announce another game with an indi-company. And make it NG combat with a multiplayer component, then I can die and go to heaven(after I play it of course).

I can only imagine what the gaming world would be like if Itagaki had his own company.
