Oh fuck it. If EA was a person, there would be special place in hell for it.
Its not like you need that gun or pistol, anyway.
The multiplayer Collector's Rifle "powers-up" the more you buy -- so EA has effectively created an incentive for people to buy multiple products.
However, like I said, I'm starting to get over that (they offer some free weapons from the amalur demo anyway), what sounds like bullshit will be the From Dust DLC. When they start taking away actual game content, to sell separately, then we have a problem (and oh man are you naive if you think that it wasn't cherry picked right off of the disk so it could be sold day 1)
@UltorOscariot: Remember, corporations ARE people now! Yay Corporate Personhood!
True, it may have a voice, but unfortunately I have yet to see the argument that it also has a soul that can spend eternity in a lake of burning excrement, if you're into that sort of thing.
You know before you run around the map to find an ammo cache to reload it?
All the DLC packaged with the products is nothing but unlocks for the CO-OP mode. You can also get them by simply playing the game. None of it is exclusive content.
I usually have a lot more respect for Destructoid, but spreading this ridiculous FUD is pretty pathetic.
'From Dust' is really likely the Zaeed Style Character. The Gamestop leak has caused such an uproar over nothing.
The 'Power Ups' are earned in game in the Multiplayer - if you buy all this shit you will likely max out your level in MP and not have a game to play. Aside from the Collector AR - it's all stuff you can get in game. Go Play the MP Demo, go read the description of the DLC w/ the figures and tell me they're not just talking about Recruitment packs.
The Preorder bonuses you list? Most of those are Exclusive to the CE. So it's misleading to list them out separately. The only real preorder bonuses are 1) Argus AR - just preorder 2) AT-12 Raider Shotgun Preorder at Origin 3) N7 Defender Armor and Valk AR Preorder at Gamestop.
You can say having all of Halo 3 costs more than 300 dollars if you include the special edition console, but that is farfetched...
I never said any of this DLC was needed or required -- in fact I clearly state and link proof of multiplayer content in the list.
The fact simply is, EA has worked out business deals to provide at least $870 worth of monetary DLC. That's it.
But for what's it's worth, there are a number of non-coop bits of DLC - such as From Dust, the iOS tie-in, and the $20 "premium" limited edition/pre-order bonuses.
How does from dust being "a zaeed style character" make it any better? If it's ripped off the disk to be sold seperately (even if it comes with an online pass) it's still bullshit (and Zaeed not being on the disk was bullshit)
The DLC for ten of the items you listed is identical. Your headline is misleading linkbait.
Purchasing the N7 edition from Gamestop gets you ever single piece of DLC content except a single weapon which is exclusive to Origin. This costs no extra money at all.
You might also want to mention that "From Dust" is packaged with the N7 Edition.
Gotham City Imposters has been selling multiplayer unlocks as DLC in the exact same manner. It may not be required to buy these, but it still doesn't make it any less absurd.
Also, I try to state multiple times that a number of them are multiplayer unlocks, and give full links to the content.
@Izmir
Again. It's not identical. Extra purchases "power-up" the rifle. They are actively pursuing more than one purchase. This is straight from the website I linked:
"If you have already obtained the Collector Assault Rifle, this code will strengthen the weapon further."
this video comes to mind.
And again, the codes duplicate a feature you can purchase with in-game cash, which you can earn by simply playing the game.
It's called a PROMOTIONAL BONUS. Nowhere has it been suggested that people should buy the products just to get the codes. It's just an added value. It's not even really DLC.
Anyways, it's clear that you're going to stick with what you've written, and your misleading headline is getting retweeted all over right now. I hope you're proud of your efforts to spread disinformation and ignorance.
Now Railworks 2012 on the otherhand you actually have to pay nearly 1700 for all of the DLC. You don't see headlines for Portal 2's 130 Dollar DLC
And why the fuck would you buy all those things when 8/10 of the ones you listed are the exact same thing...
I note multiple times that some of these are unlocks. I have collectively and calmly stated the maximum ceiling for Mass Effect 3's DLC, should one purchase all of it (and there are people who will). I have given links detailing all of the content. There is nothing sensationalist here.
If a game sells non-essential, completely cosmetic monocles for $70 as DLC, is it still not absurd?
Lair of the Shadow Broker is better then Arrival. But in general I agree with your overall thought. That's the model we need to support. Actual money for actual content.
It makes it 'ok' because it's not the 'ten extra dollars' on launch day people are bitching about. It will come with new copies - don't bitch cause you wanted to save $5 dollars on a used copy and then whine you don't have all the content. (Not directed at you, but in general the notion that a used product should be the same as a new one)
