It's real! Hudson officially announces The Calling for Wii photo

A few months back, promising-looking footage for a horror game called The Calling popped up on YouTube. It was ripped down rather swiftly, however, and Hudson claimed that while the game was a real one they were working on, that the footage was stolen from them. It was a bit of a fiasco, and for a while there was no word of the game (much to my great disappointment).

You can imagine, then, that I was ecstatic to see that Famitsu has announced the game is officially coming for Wii. Apparently the game is about 70 percent complete and you use a cell phone in the game to receive calls, send and receive texts and record audio. From the pictures we can guess that some of the characters include a trip of schoolgirls, a mysterious older man and a young girl. There's also talk that th egame may be on rails, although not is not confirmed.

No word on whether the game will see an US release or not, but I think it's possible. Would you want this game if it came out here, or do you need more information to decide?

I really like on-rails shooters once in a while... but am hoping for something different from Hudson. The niche genre seems to be getting a bit crowded on Wii already.

Between Ghost Squad, House of the Dead, Resident Evil Chronicles, the upcoming Dead Space Extraction, and a host of other titles I've enjoyed more shooting this generation than ever before. But variety is what makes gaming so enjoyable and the Wii is capable of more than just on-rails games...

Hopefully we won't see every developer jump on the bandwagon with half-baked "me too" on-rails experiences.

Please, not another on-rails shooter. Give me a real survival horror, and I'll love you forever, Hudson.

If its another on rails shooter it's a definite no, I'll have plenty with Darkside Chronicles and Dead Space Extraction.

I'll keep an eye out for this and Ju-On, but I'll wait to see some impressions before I make up my mind on whether to get them or not. I love survival horror, but Hudson games' quality aren't always up to snuff.
