I'll keep this short and sweet, because frankly, we've all seen the writing on the wall for some time. But, Sony finally came clean and announced that the 20GB PlayStation 3 is now dead. No more. Finished. Bye bye. From 1UP: "At launch, we offered two separate models of PLAYSTATION 3 to meet the diverse needs and interests of our PlayStation fan base. Initial retail demand in North America was upwards of ninety percent in favor of the 60GB sku, so we manufactured and shipped-in accordingly. Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model here in North America," said SCEA senior director of corporate communications Dave Karraker.
"In addition to the larger internal hard drive, the 60GB PlayStation 3 features added storage media slots and built-in Wi-Fi not found in the 20GB system. Based on retailer and consumer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model," he concluded.
Good, now that we've got that nasty business out of the way, how about we start getting the good games rollin' on in, Sony? For instance, my MLB: The Show for the PS3 was delayed until May (according to a plump GameStop employee), so I is a sad panda right now. Luckily, MotorStorm is keeping me warm and cozy at night.

Now it's time to retire that pesky 60Gig.
haha, that may be the funniest thing you've ever posted dprime.
haters.
I dont think thats a good idea, here where I live the Xbox360 core is the popular choice. (you can buy the HDD later anyway and cheaper)
Considering the main problem of the PS3 is price, and that one costs $100 bucks less. Definetily not a smart move.
Who cares, cool people get the 60 gig anyway. Now everyone can be cool. Well, for $600.....
@dprime
Awesome
@Summa
Hurts, don't it?
I think the fact that ANY PS3 can have any size drive you want in there makes any secondary sku a real waste of cash.
Frankly, I wish MS had followed this same mentality so we wouldn't have to be wallet-raped for a 120GB drive. I can buy a SATA or EIDE 2.5" drive for $80 at that size.
Summa's photoshop skillz are the best. or is that done in Paint? :)
MS Paint ftw!
Yes, these are sad times.
Forget photoshop, MS paint ftw!
Meh, one less SKU.
I'd rather see MS Paint. At least it's not that fucking Churchill pic (I know, I know, it's not Summa's gimmick, but you get the idea).

And some of you are still bitching about the price? LAMESAUCE!
"Based on retailer and consumer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model."
Read: we profit more from the 60GB model, so that's the one you have to buy.
Good Riddance. Sony maybe destined to the same lonely fate as SEGA (at least in the gaming biz...TO THE BARGIN BIN!!!!! I'd pay $100 for one if they paid me a $100.

The PS3 is a great successor to the original XBox - a console that'll bloom late game-wise, and after a couple price drops and a decent used-console market emerges, it'll enjoy an interesting second market as a fantastic commodity Linux-based media center, and be completely blown away by its next gen successor, which will jump the gun by at least six months on everyone else and reclaim the home console market.
Unless, by then, we finally evolve to handhelds.
I hardly knew ya, PS3 20GB. Thank God you were out of stock when I got my 60GB.
Anyone else think they only had the 20GB so they could say the PS3 starts at $500 and not $600 for the launch? That lasted a long time, didn't it?
"And some of you are still bitching about the price? LAMESAUCE!"
Yes, because it's still just as expensive as it was...I still don't want to spend $600 for a game console. For that matter the cheaper option is gone now so yeah, still gonna bitch. Get used to it. :P
im with Summa, dont buy anything if ur going to cry over price.
Use the money instead to go to school, graduate, get a good paying job, dont get a married! then come back n buy the system you want :P
Nice job with the picture. A budget system deserves budget art, yo.
For me, that extra $100 means another year of waiting before I get one. Can I afford a $600 game machine? Easily. I just don't want to.
Sony please die......please
