It's like 1992 in 2008! Sega Genesis game scheduled for release this Christmas photo

Capcom might think it's acting retro with Mega Man 9 on WiiWare, but some people have the balls to go the whole way. Presenting The Legend of Wukong, a roleplaying game developed for use with the Sega Megadrive/Genesis and scheduled for release this Christmas.

Legend of Wukong is a vibrant, new role playing adventure game for use with Sega Genesis and Sega Megadrive videogame systems as well as all compatible systems. Scheduled for release in time for Christmas, 2008, it will mark the second commercial game release for the Sega Genesis in the United States since 1998 (the first being our own Beggar Prince).

This isn't the first time a brand new game has hit the Genesis in modern times, but that doesn't make it any less awesome. We British gamers tend to have the ol' Megadrive in our blood, so I'm happy to see something released for it.

Who about you? Are these truly retro releases a good idea, or is it nostalgia gone mad?

Wow I don't even care if this game is good, I'd buy it. I support someone giving it the ol' college try. :D

Thought this was gonna be about Pier Solar, the other Genesis game coming out this year.

Less of a new game, more of a taking a game from Taiwan and filling the blanks.

I agree with Brilliam, where's the Pier Solar coverage? That's a true new game, written from scratch.

I agree with Rio's sentiment. I'd rather support something like this, a product that's a labor of love, instead of the usual quick cash grab put out by EA and others.

i want them both but will be be on the vc oor is there a way to buy the rom and play them on emulators (i know thats stupid but its what i'd rather)

because now i have to go out an buy a sega and have it take up shelf space just for 2 games i might not like

i realize there like 5 buck now but i'd rather not add another bulky item to my already overfull entertainment center

Nice to see it here, of course. As a local (My Hometown!) dev. supporter, I endorse this post.

Ha! Broke this story on my blog two days before you guys did!

This is really cool and all, but Pier Solar looks much more impressive. And to answer someone else's question, this is actually NOT a new game. Like Beggar Prince, it's a localization of a game that was released well over a decade ago.

Pier Solar, however, is an entirely new game and looks much more like a game of that era.

But what the heck! There are two Sega Genesis games coming out this Christmas! How fucking cool is that!?
