It's about time! Okami for the Wii confirmed photo

Let me get this out of the way first … woo hoo!

Eurogamer is reporting that Capcom has (finally!) announced it is bringing its critically adored PlayStation 2 game Okami to the Nintendo Wii in spring 2008.

While the news is very exciting (did you see my “woo hoo?”), it kind of felt inevitable, as Okami screams Wiimote controls from beginning to end. In an obvious statement, Capcom confirmed that the new controls would be used primarily for the Celestial Brush -- the game’s deep painting mechanic -- as well as some additional motion-based combat sequences.

What do you all think? Can you not wait to play through this masterpiece again the way Jesus intended …or do you look at this as just another PS2 to Wii port, a concept nobody should get excited about, let alone support?

Great news, since I can now claim that I held off of buying the PS2 version because I knew in my heart that it would make it to Wii. That being said, I want to see how the controls eventually work out before I make a commitment.

I played Okami, but it wasn't mine so i never got enough time with it. Anyway, I'm excited about this, ps2 port or not.

Good game, perfect for the Wii, but still a PS2 port.

I don't think this is good news for the Wii at all, if Capcom were bringing a whole new exclusive Okami game to the Wii, then that would be something worth getting excited about and a worthy addition.

As it stands, it's clear that Capcom, along with all other third party developers see the Wii as an annoying after thought. Sad but true.

Anyways, Clover disappeared as a company, not as a team, they can still work on it over at Capcom.

I just know that the Wii version will sell pretty well, they have a wider audience they can reach. That is the point in bringing it over. Maybe then Clover might come back and make some more dope shit.

Yeah, Zack and Wiki (Wii Exclusive) and We Love Gold (Wii Exclusive) are great examples of how Capcom sees the Wii as an annoying after thought. Do some homework.

Clover team have gone there ways, but I'm sure they'll give Capcom any imput needed. Don't feel bad if

Between Capcom and Sega, Wii won't be having any problems with games next year. The Wii is getting original games so there is room for simpler games like Okami.

Okami DS?? Could we possibly see it one day I wonder? With Phantom Hourglass and NG Dragon Sword using the stylus how they are, the very thought of Okami DS is making me giddy.

I wonder why so many of you Wii owners who say "I couldn't play the original, didn't have a PS2" bought the Wii instead of the PS2. The PS2 is still the best and the cheapest console around so why buy a retarded casual gamer machine? Oh yeah i know why, the Nintendo hype machine *laughs*.

The way I see it is that even though its a port (which sucks), its a port of one of the most beautiful and overlooked games of the last generation. ITs a game that should of gotten way more exposure than it did, and I'm glad its getting a second chance.

Amazing game, but I won't buy it again. Will be cool to finally see it in widescreen, though. That is to say: They'd better make it widescreen.

Game-starved Wii owners will hopefully pick this up in droves, either way. It freakin' rocks.

Hmm...

If I hadn't already played this on the PS2, I'd much more excited about this. It's definitely a good thing that it's coming out on the Wii, but I'm sure I can personally justify buying the same game for a different system.

Hmm...

One option is that I could give the PS2 version to some of my family who has a PS2 as well for, like, Christmas or something when I go back home to visit, and then get the Wii version for myself when it comes out. Yeah, that could work out pretty well.

"I'm not sure", rather. But I actually found a justification, so it's all good.

Hmm. You just reminded me that I never even started Okami on the PS2. I have it, sitting on my DVD rack. I just never got around to it.

I know some of you are turned off by the thought of a PS2 port, but consider the PS2 ports already released.

Godfather (GTA clone)
Medal of honor Vanguard (released at the same time, but made primarily for the PS2)
Mortal Kombat Armageddon (not exactly the top tier of fighting game series)
Prince of Persia Rival Swords (multiplatform, but made for the PS2)
Resident Evil 4 (in the sense that it includes content from the Ps2 version)
Scarface (another GTA clone)
Splinter Cell Double Agent (version likely based on the PS2 build)
Spider Man 3 (same as Splinter Cell)
Most of the other games from the PS2 were multiplatform licensed games.

Now out of that list, RE4 is the ONLY genuine AAA game. Okami and Bully are actually good games from the PS2 coming out on the Wii.

Hes talking about the 3rd Prince of Persia title. And that was a genuine AAA title in my belief.

And yeah, Bully is coming to the Wii. Eventually.

Rival Swords is the retitling of Two Thrones. It was released on both Wii and PSP, but aside from the title and added content, it was based on a build made for the PS2, hence a PS2 port.

@TheMartino: Even if Two Thrones got some critical acclaim, the poor controls of the Wii version negated that, making it just another weak PS2 port.

Sorry for the triple posting (if it is the case), but I have to admit I am guessing that Two Thrones was made first for the PS2 mainly on the basis that most titles by then were. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

Top-notch ps2 games with zelda controls and a cheap price tag? I don't mind!

Plus heY! maybe it'll pave the way for a sequel or two :)

@ Teedub

Done my homework, Zack & Wiki and We Love Gold versus RE5, Lost Planet, SF4, Bionic Commando, Dead Rising...the list goes on.

Hey, I love the Wii, but I'm not blind to the realities of the lack of qaulity, exclusive third party support. Things may change, but yet another PS2 port (no matter how good) is not the sign of change I was hoping for.

I don't understand the hubub but maybe it's because I still haven't completed okami. I thought the brush mechanic was fine with the sticks though.

Shadow of the colossus is by Sony Computer Entertainment by the way so no chance of that. It also means you'll have to get a PS3 for the sequel :(

I'm support this mostly because I hope it can help get the wonder that is Okami into more gamers hands. They deserve sales numbers reflecting the greatness of the game.
Also, I never bought the PS2 version, holding off for this one, so I will be happy

Awesome. I never played the original on the PlayStaytion 2, so this has WIN written all over it for me. I'm sorry for those of you who already played it or think it's a bad idea (especially DinnertimeNinja), but the short-run game didn't sell very well at all and I think it could very vell breath a second life into the title.

The only thing I think is weird (and the reason I thought they had originally opted not to do this), is because this is, from what I've heard, essentially a Zelda clone where you play as a wolf. Well, with Twilight Princess already doing that, I figured that's why they moved it from the 'Cube to the PS2.

At any rate, GOOD TIMES!

Cool. It looks like the kind of game that would benefit from a port instead of just porting a game for no reason.

Since I no longer had a PS2 when this came out, I'll be all over playing it on the Wii. Especially if it's priced at $30 like RE4.
