It's a trap: Final Fantasy IV sequel coming to XBLA is most likely bullsh*t photo

A story is currently flying around the Interwebs concerning a potential release of Final Fantasy IV: The After on Xbox Live Arcade. Apparently, there was a page on Microsoft Japan's Xbox Web site which confirmed the release, including an image and everything. The gaming Blogocube picked naturally went nuts. However, a little digging by our resident tipsters suggests it is more than likely a trap.

We received a tip this morning about how Microsoft Japan allows you to create your own game page, claiming that anything and everything would be coming to the Xbox 360. Super Mario Bros., Metroid, God of War -- whatever you could think of, you could spoof an official listing on Microsoft's own Web site. 

Sadly, however, neither the page that started this whole story nor the ability to create your own releases seem to exist anymore, so we can't tell what's up or down anymore. However, just be warned that the current stories regarding The After on XBLA reside on the most flimsy of ground.

The point of it is that http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/f/finalfantasy4/ appends a details.page, while any other URL (say, http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/f/finalfantasy3, http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/games/m/metalgearsolid4, etc.) does not.

Thems fighting words Haxan, that game is fucking awesome. It's what Final Fantasy X-2 should have been, as far as sequels go. Look it up.

Sorry, I hadn't realized that it was already a cellphone game. I haven't played it. I can see it being good, as I loved the original near 20 years ago on my SNES. But, I stand behind it being a lame title. Were "The Sequel", "The Story Continues", "The Part Two-ening" and "Gobeztric Boogaloo" already taken?

I haven't actually played it myself, but I did read the plot synopsis on a Wiki, and it seems like a worth follow up. It's a shame that we can't emulate it since it was released on cell phones. Agreed on the title being lame though, but maybe it has more significance in Japanese?

I can see it now: a co-op shooter with the twin mages as main characters.

If Square-Enix started releasing their remakes on XBLA instead of the DS, they'd have all of my money.

But that probably isn't much compared to the killing they make otherwise.

Damn. I remember catching wind of the cellphone games in japan, and as we all know we'll never see them over here. FFIV is easily one of my favorites in the series, and I'd love that story getting the same revisiting treatment that FFVII and X have recieved.

Awww.... damn it... well guess only Final Fantasy XIII is the only one. I was really hoping for 7 (though I do not care either way). I wonder what about 6. Come on Square Enix.
