I think it's good. Sony mainly got pissed because the games were getting leaked. So ban the systems that are going to steal money from you. Makes sense to me

This actually isn't too bad. The fact that Sony only removed ONLINE functionality is a good move - bricking consoles because they may possibly violate one line that would be a legal shitstorm would be a PR disaster, however this move protects the online community as well.

Whoa, 1 day to remove any unauthourized device? A lot of people probably didn't even know of yesterday's announcement. Then again, they had it coming.
I wonder how this affects reselling of consoles?

I can say without a doubt that much like my 100% support for people to do whatever they feel like with their property (in this case modding the PS3), I have 100% support for Sony banning said modified hard/software from their network.
I would never buy a second hand console from this gen, too much with them that can go wrong, so reselling a banned PS3 doesn't bother me.

Your last point is why I have no problem with these bans. Keep the glitching and cheating off the PS3. Sadly I doubt this is the last will hear from the hackers.
My prediction for next week: "Hackers back on PSN thanks to new hack, Sony continues pointless struggle."
Isn't this what Microsoft does to XBox 360's that are modded and brought online? Good for Sony though, hopefully this will keep cheaters off of my MvC3 and Killzone 3 games.
Its a shame that sony isn't even welcoming to homebrew. Piracy I can understand, but some homebrew can be really awesome. whatever, my ps3 is clean, so no worries for me :D

Actually, MS has been doing this as far back as the original Xbox. You would be instantly banned if you connected to XBL with a modchip active. I had a chipped Xbox, and always had to remember to turn my chip off if I wanted to play online.

Sony initially released the PS3 with the option to install another OS. They couldn't be MORE supportive of homebrew back in the day. But of course, the number one use of that feature was to rip off sony through puracy, so out it goes, along with most fun things that legit gamers have to give up because of a selfish minority.

I'm a fan of modding and homebrew but yes they should be banned. Hacking and playing online do not mix well
In all honesty, the thing that concerns me is that lately I've been musing on the idea of getting a PS3 secondhand through craigslist or some other dealer. However, now those plans may be nixed entirely with the possibility that those consoles are banned from PSN.

Makes sense to me; everyone knew this was coming. I think most of the hackers probably don't care as they expected this to begin with. Ruining your online experience isn't what they're after. They're just experimenting with the technology and seeing what they can do with it.

I'm all for people modding their consoles to add say backwards compatibility and stuff like that, but if you're modding just to play downloaded games and fuck with people online then GTFO.

sounds good to me. they are free to do what they want with their consoles like they wanted, but they are kept offline to prevent possible cheating.

I am happy to see this happen honestly. I think its fine if you want to hack your console for legitimate reasons (not piracy), but I don't blame sony if they ban all modded consoles from psn since it's a free service they give you. This will cut down on the hackers ruining online gameplay on so many games which makes me happy.

This won't stop all the cheating though that was going on before the jailbreaking and will continue after this.
