I don't mean to put the pressure on, RPG fans, but Persona 4 is coming. I know you're still probably grinding away at Persona 3: FES, but Persona 4 hits shelves in Japan this summer. And the rumor is that we'll see a US release not too long after. We'll need whatever head start we can get, as they say that P4 is supposed to be 1.5 times longer than P3, and it will contain over 180 Persona.

For now, here's the opening movie for Persona 4. Despite the craptastic audio, I'm pretty excited by watching this. It gives us some quick glimpses of some of the characters in some iPod commercial-ish shilouettes, and you'll notice that their spectacles are the only thing highlighted. Could this be another Evoker hint?

Siliconera points out that each characters weapons may be hinted at in this video. Good eye!

Are you ready for more Persona?  Where would Persona be without school uniforms? And what the hell is that zipper bear thing?

I'm glad they're making another one so soon, just for the sake of a new soundtrack.

I'm only halfway through P3, so I wonder if the release of P4 here will nicely compliment my completion of P3, with a little rest in between.

I must say though that even though all the details about P4 excite the hell out of me (multiple endings, the country setting, the darker mysteries, etc), I have to say I hate the main characters. They look like the biggest goddamn dweebs in the whole world. I haven't seen a single character so far that is even close to being cool.

I'm a mere 30 hours into P3 myself but am deep enough in to know that I will buy this as soon as it hits these shores. Most fun I've had with an RPG since DQ8.

main characters are growing on me. that said, i don't think they'll ever be as cool as the ones in P3. thank god though they've got a resident redhead. she's no Mitsuru, but she'll have to do.

"I know you're still probably grinding away at Persona 3: FES"

How many times do I have to say it? You cannot grind in Persona 3. The EXP you get from enemies keeps getting lower and lower as your level goes above theirs. Once you're a couple levels higher than the enemies on the floors around you, you aren't earning squat, and thus cannot grind.

And besides, grinding is the OPPOSITE of what the player needs to do in Persona 3, since stats don't mean dick until they're like 20 above the enemies' anyway.

*grumbles*

I like the video. Can't wait.

I'm most likely picking P4 up too, I'll just need a machine which adds ten hours to each day to have time to play it.

@burrito: Yes. P3 has no connection to the old games outside of a handful of obscure throwaway references to old characters in the S.Links and on the TV news in the dorm.

Just started P3:FES, I'm about 8 hours in. I don't understand a lot of it, but I feel strangely drawn to it. I've been blowing off GTA4 to play it :(

So we go from guns to glasses.

I just want 3 things for P4.

1. No huge dungeon that was boring as shit after the first 50 floors.

2. No arbitrary crap to make the story come to a screeching halt, full moon events can blow me.

3. Let me control my party members.

That would make P4 the best Tensei game ever, as it stands Nocturne is still the king.

I wouldn't have cared about two weeks ago, but now that I'm fully engaged with P3, I care oh-so-much.

Only about 21 hours into P3:FES and haven't even scratched the surface. This game is taking time away from GTA 4. Too bad in P4 you can't launch Personas by blowing your brains out.

I haven't even started playing P3 yet (Still playing DMC4 and GoW: Chains of Olympus... interesting pair of games to play at the same time let me tell ya) and this intro still gets me excited to play P4. This song will be stuck in my head for a while.

I just noticed the two police officers briefly shown at 0:51 bear a striking resemblance to the two officers in the Persona anime.

halfway through p3fes now. imo, one high priority thing that they need to change is the ability to check/equip your party members anywhere/anytime. it's a very fun game.. but i think that reviewers have overlooked some of its blemishes.

@b4con: you can check equipment by talking to members in Tartarus or by talking to Fuuka and choosing "check status". That should be enough. It's not like you need to know their attack stat during class or anything.

well i mostly mean when i'm at the mall, and yeah i know you can press the r-buttons to see their equipment. the way they made it is counter-intuitive and annoying.

I believe the way to summon personas has been all but figured out by now. People seem to use tarot cards to summon them, the exact kind of cards seen in shuffle mode in P3. They seem to have to destroy the card to summon them.

The glasses seem to be the way they see the cards, the shadows, or the entire 'TV world' they enter to battle the shadows. I'm not sure which, but the glasses aren't evokers. Think of them as the sunglasses in They Live. You use them to see the truth.

Fusing Persona to get a desired result is rather difficult in P3 so I hope they make that more intuitive in P4. too I hope they do away with the cute and cuddly personas like Jack Frost.

Anywho back to P3...Now if I can only get fucking Bebe to stop pestering me.

@Holiday: Difficult to get desired results? Are you kidding me? The entire system is a rather simple algorithm and you can tell nearly 100% of the time what you are going to get from any fusion.

And Jack Frost isn't going anywhere. He's Atlus' mascot. But of course, if you think that all the Personas should be "DARK AND GRITTY" you're missing the point entirely anyway, so you probably aren't going to listen to that.
Holiday's Avatar - Comment posted on 05/12/2008 09:29

Well let's just say Some of the Personas look a lot cooler than others. Usually the higher level ones. As far as persona attributes I actually had to write down what all the abilities are Dia, Garu, Hamma, etc. so I know what's what when I fuse. Made the mistake of fusing a few personas and loosing certain abilities in the process that I actually needed. Thankfully you can register them and get them back but I wish it was a little more comprehensive what ability does what, there are so many it's hard to keep track sometimes.
