Ah, that music -- that glorious music. It’s like comfort food to me.

Last week during TGS, Square Enix showed off a new trailer for upcoming DS game Dragon Quest IX. For some reason it was not released to the public, leading me to push a few old ladies into mud puddles. Luckily, someone broke the rules and decided to record the trailer and post it on the Internet. Yay, hooligans!

Since the surprising reveal a couple years back that Dragon Quest IX would be a Nintendo DS exclusive, DQIX has gone from a heavily multiplayer, Secret of Mana-esque game to slowly morphing back to its traditional, turn-based RPG roots. While news on how the almost finished game actually plays is still unknown, there can be no argument that this leaked trailer is absolutely stunning. I may go so far as to say the game has the best graphics of any DS game to date. Just look at those gorgeous visuals! *swoon*

Let us know what you think of the trailer. Do you agree that it looks amazing or have you seen better on the Nintendo DS? How excited are you for Dragon Quest IX? I, for one, can’t wait!

Seriously holy crap, I like how some sound effects are very bitsy like magic attacks.

This adds to my wishlist also for Akira Toriyama's Work doing justice again.

Byoootiful! Still, for me it is going to be tough to top DQ8. Man, I love that game.
Now then, when does it come out?! I want to play this game yesterday.

Dammit! This game will really raise the bar for the DS development.

@Prince Ghidorah,
I agree. Dragon Quest VIII is in my top five favorite RPGs of all time. But I still can't wait for DQIX!

Because of the quality of this video, I'll hold back with my judgement of the grahics.
But DragonQuest never dissapoints, so this game will be totally amazing.

I love the "bi-di, bi-di, bi-di" sound when someone casts magic :)

Is this getting an orchestral score, on the DS?!

Sexy!

The graphics look nice, but I'm sure the gameplay will be the same old tired 8-bit crap that was already outdated when the first game came out.

The sad thing is that this would never look this good on the Wii. Somehow.

That looks absolutely incredible. The cel-shading is so crisp and the sound effects are perfect. God I love that music... mmm...

Somehow I doubt these are DS graphics. I'm pretty sure it's just some cutscenes.

@Narishma,
All the cutscene footage aside, there is a lot of actual in-game stuff. I think that is what we all are referring to. :)

I think I read somewhere that the idea was the game is supposed to be real time for multiplayer and turn based for single player.....

So that's why DQIX has been hiding. I figured that the game was coming along poorly but it seems to be quite the opposite. I've never played a DQ game but I am unbelievably excited for this!!

Jeebus that looks freaking awesome! ^_^ So much fun with VIII . . . until some douche stole my memory card . . . -_-' . . . but for a game of that magnitude and on DS . . . MAN does it look good!

I think they've done away with the random battles, since I saw a slime on the battlefield just before the team attacked it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that compares Dragon Quest to comfort food ^_^ It's my bread rolls of video gaming.

I don't think words could describe how excited I am by anything pertaining to Dragon Quest. I'm just sad I have to wait for so long to play it.

I'm not into DQ games (actually I don't feel very attracted to Medieval-RPG games), although this game looks great. I know gameplay will be the same, but I think I can try it out.

Incredible! I've been weary of Toriyama's style recently and this totally redeems him. I really love how this looks on the DS. They've done a great job bringing the huge series to the small screens, this will be in my library. First DQ game ever. Looking forward to it. Also, the cutscenes are INCREDIBLE! I want a console game to look like that. PLEASE!

As much as I am looking forward to 'DQIX,' I am a bit saddened that it will be a while until we see a 'DQ' looking as good, if not better, than 'DQVIII.' Damn gorgeous game, that 8th one.
