Is Spore the work of Satan? One Christian thinks so photo

I am convinced this is a joke, but some people online seem to be taking it seriously. Apparently one man has gone on a crusade to fight against the "war on creationism" that is Spore, claiming that EA's game teaches evolution to children and could "convert" kids from the way of The Lord.

Such gems include this recent posting:

I am really at a loss for words here.

It seems Will has suddenly switched gears from evolution to creation and is trying to say that in 18 days, Spore users did what God did in 7.  So all of spore users add up to 38% of God.  Unbelievable.

Just another direct attack from a man who thinks he is unstoppable.

Like I say, this has to be a joke, but if it's not, then it's still really rather funny. Is Will Wright an "evil" man who can't be trusted because the church to which he belongs "regularly ordains homosexuals?" Does EA employ 8,5000 people with "not enough Jesus" to stand up and say that the company is wrong?

Decide for yourself. I'll be too busy setting fire to some Nuns.

Like you said, this has to be a joke. It has about as much chance of turning potential Christians away from religion as a cookbook. Bot involve creating things, right?

Lets hope so. Then eventually we won't have people like this around.

Those who believe this is real are just as nutty as those who actually act like this sadly. Will Wright has been really clear about the message or the concept of the game will be.

"[With Spore] we didn't want to go too far down that [creationism] path: we leave the whole creation of the universe question open. Obviously as the player you're coming in and playing something like a god, directing the evolution of a species, but we never really state who you the player are..."

This dude I'm sure is trying ot be the next Fake Steve Jobs. GG

He says that intelligent design and creationism are the same thing, which is something I've never seen any religious person say since it undermines the entire point of coming up with intelligent design in the first place.

This site is an example of when commitment to a joke does nothing to make it funnier. It isn't absurd enough to be funny on its own and it isn't clever enough to be funny without being ridiculous.

Give the woman credit at least she is standing up for her beliefs - granted, not in a very good way or even a sensible way but standing up nonetheless...

The real crazyness that this shows though is the amount of venom and ignorance that is produced when someone reads the tag line and then looks at youTube videos. It is sensationalisim and nothing irks a Christian (assumed, cant find denomination anywhere) like being told they are wrong. Not that I ever do that... no.. that would be wrong...

Some fantastic comments on there also...

Apparently Spore has a code embedded into it that once you finish the game MUSLIMS congratulate you. Brown skinned muslims.

There is one huge difference: Spore fans exist.
Beat that.

And the best one is actually a post from "admin" themselves...

I don't think this is supposed to be a joke Jim. Peole in the US really tend to be that stupid. I mean if you have states where the BIOLOGY class has to include the creation of the world by god as a alternative theory and where people openly crusade against the teaching of the proven evolution theory you only had to wait until they pointed their pitchforks and torches towards Spore. At least I did

Why just highfive Radical Islam for standing up for their beliefs too? or The nut jobs that bomb abortion clinics?

@Snake - Standing up and speaking/debating about your believes then yes. More than welcome too no matter what faith/denomination you are. If people stand up and talk, then their reasons can be discussed and picked apart. They can also do the same to your own. Communication and respect do not break any laws in fact, they tend to strengthen them.

Bombings and any crimes for whatever reason should be delt with, and indeed generally are, by a court of law of the respective country/state. Religion isn't about breaking the law, as any number of them have some wacked out ideas...

Christians should kill Jews and Gentiels (sp? it's been a while)
Islamic should kill all Infidels
etc etc...

The only exceptions are those that choose to segregate themselves from the curesed/tainted/sinners/non-believers like the Ammish or those that preach respect for all life, like Buddists. Think the other religions have generally cut back on the kill or other speaches in public at least, mostly now deal with forced segrgation and percieved descrimination.

Then again, there are some wacked out real laws too such as
"London Hackney Carriages (taxis/cabs) must carry a bale of hay and a sack of oats." and "Any person found breaking a boiled egg at the sharp end will be sentenced to 24 hours in the village stocks (enacted by Edward VI)." Technically, these are still on the stature books and COULD be enforced. Common sense says otherwise...

Ok, I know I might get flamed, but I'm willing to risk it anyway. I'm a devout Christian and I (along with everyone I know) have no problem with this game (other than the fact that it's not that great...). If anyone is freaking out about it for real, they're retarded and just looking for something to whine about. Please don't give this crap anymore attention than it's worth... You're just encouraging them...

Actually, this response to Spore has been the exception for most of the religious community. I haven't really heard a peep from anybody else on the creationist side complaining about it.

I'm with jackal 27 too. I have no issue with the subject of the game, but this lady isn't just looking for attention, she genuinely believes what she's saying.

People will find a reason to bitch about anything. Here's a rather simple game, that lets you create something, and help it evolve over its life. Its something that I wouldn't mind my kids playing because it lets them be creative.

I was going to just ignore this brush it off as people being stupid. Then I actually read what the complaint was, and I facepalmed so hard that I replicated the Large Hadron Collider's activation.

If anything, I'd say that God is probably quite pleased with the creativity involved in putting the game together, and also the creativity involved in playing it. Will Wright has never purported to wanting to be God, nor to make players more "powerful" than God, or any such nonsense. At worst, God's probably saddened by Will Wright's atheism, but that's likely as bad as it gets, for the most part. And I'm a Christian so, like, I'm totally an expert on God 'n' stuff.

This must be:

1. A joke
2. Fanatics
3. Idiots (I'll go for 3)

I'm a christian and I play violent and non-violent games. I really don't see an issue with Spore or other games. This is just plain stupid.

As a kid I grew up watching vilent cartoons like, Looney Tunes (yes they are violent), GiJoe, X-Men, Thunder Cats etc etc. I also grew up with the Simpsons, South Park, Rock and Roll and Heavy Metal. I loved Grand Theft Auto and all the gory games like Mortal Kombat and the like.

Did this make me a violent kid? NO!!!! I always knew what was good and bad and what to do.

@MotoRobo:

Let me see if I understand your position correctly.

Accepting a sound scientific theory based on over 150 years of experimentation and observation that is corroborated among dozens of fields of scientific inquiry is completely absurd.

But believing in an omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient creator god who had to sacrifice his only son, which is really himself (how does that work?), to himself to convince himself to forgive humanity for being convinced by a talking snake to eat a magical fruit of knowledge in a long lost paradise 6000 years ago because a bunch of bronze age desert nomad sheep herders said it's true is perfectly sane.

Give me a goddamn break.

@Too Much Coffee Man:

Way to be wrong. I don't know a single atheist (myself included) that claims to know for absolute certainty that god does not exist. We just think the chances of god's existence are pretty close to zero.

The mystery is why people try to elevate religious belief to the same level as rationalism by claiming they are both equally dogmatic.
