Is Persona PSP longer than Persona 3 and 4 combined? photo

Nah. Just messing with you.

Check out my total play time, pictured above. That's 453 hours and 7 minutes. Is Shin Megami Tensei: Persona for the PSP really that long? No. This time is a result of the lack of auto-pause when setting the PSP in standby mode. Some games that log your play time, like Capcom's Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, pause your game for you automatically when you go into standby mode. Persona PSP? Not so much. It just keeps logging your time.

So how long is it really? I have no idea. If I had to estimate, I'd say that you'll get a good 40 hours out of it if you do all the right things and get the good ending. Scared you, didn't I?

So you want to know how the game is? It's really great. I'm well into my second play through. I love seeing all of the stuff they've changed in this remake. One of the things they've changed the most is the dialogue. It used to be pretty bad, but now it's really sharp. Some of it's funny, too. In one scene, Mark calls an enemy a "dickwipe." Bonus points to Atlus USA for use of the word.

My favorite line comes from one of the enemies in demon negotiation. When you try to bribe him to give up his spell card, he responds favorably, and then says:

"It's all about the yen-jamins, baby."

Look forward to our full review of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona for the PSP later today.

Persona 3 and 4 have always surprised me by how funny they generally are, good to see that Persona PSP is no slouch.

It's cute but things like "total time played" really bug me. I get very OCD about stuff like that. Seriousely, I can't wander downstairs to make a cup of tea without saving any game first. When I've finished brewing the tasty brew, I have to reload it so the 5 minutes don't "count against me."

What I'm trying to say is, this game is going to kill me. Every bus journey is going to be a race against time.

Anyone else suffer the same fate or do I just have a chemical imbalance?

@linfosoma

Not really, seeing as Persona PSP is a remake of the first PS1 Persona title (Revelations: Persona).

Perhaps you were thinking of Persona 3 Portable?

I've been playing thru persona on psx and it's awesome. I actually like it more than p3. Will they be pumping this game full of annoying jpop? That is somehing that is fortunately missing from the psx persona.

It always irritates me when games don't pause your play time when you go into menus. It makes me feel like I can't even pause it fully. It's a weird oversight that even standby mode won't pause the clock for this game.

Ha. Crimson Gem Saga does the same thing. I didn't realize it until I got to Act 2 and the game said I have 58 hours.

@EggmaniMN - Was about to say that too. 20 hours into the game, and you've only just gotten Spinel.

I see Atlus has yet again made a mighty fine localization of the game. Yen-jamins, hyuk. i c wat u did thar

This is going to kill me.
I HATE when games don't have a pause button for the timer.

This has actually stopped me from getting closer to the end of SMT: Nocturne, because I never want to sit down and just play for 30-45 min cuz I don't want to leave it on.
