I'm hyped for the game, but should I be? There has been so little in the way of build up for the upcoming Fatal Frame 2 remake that its hard to be sure what to be hyped for. It's also possible that we're just getting teased with the idea that the game will really venture out of Japan. Remember when Fatal Frame 4 was confirmed for release in Europe? That's is part of why I never let myself get to sure that anything is actually going to happen ever, in the videogame industry and otherwise.
That all said, I am definitely hyped for the theory that I'll be playing a Fatal Frame 2 remake on the Wii someday. It would make for a near-perfect send off for the Wii to get Rhythm Heaven Fever, Dragon Quest X, Xenoblade, The Last Story, and a remake of one of the scariest games ever made all in its last year before retiring as Nintendo's flagship home console.
It would be even nicer if some super-cool publisher brought the Fatal Frame 2 remake AND the already translated Fatal Frame 4 to the US in completely must-have 2-pack collection. That's what I call money in the bank. What say you, Xseed?

I think it sort of rides on if Ghost Camera does well, because TK is bringing that to the west in April, I believe. I don't know how an AR ghost game can be scary, but then, I didn't think a survival horror game would make me jump on 3DS either and RE: Revelations achieved that a few times.
FF2 is by far the best horror game I've ever played...so yes I'm excited about this. I also don't really get the hype over FF4. I'm playing the translation right now and it's pretty mediocre.
The only thing that really, REALLY bugs me about that video is that they completely changed the camera system.
Fatal Frame II was the ONLY game in the series that didn't rely on charging up the Camera Obscura's power by just looking at a spirit -- You actually had to get close to the ghost to do any real damage. It was all based on proximity, making things much more tense. As far as this video shows, they made the camera system work exactly the same way as the other games in the series, which is a bit disappointing.
So is this a definite thing? I hadn't really heard about it till I read this.
I'm not sure how I feel about it, I mean it could be like the REmake of RE1 and be a really good re-interpretation of the original game, or it could end up like Twin Snakes where they don't quite hit the same spot as the original. In any case I hope it turns out well, I'd love to play a good, new, J-horror game.
I'd rather have an HD re-release on PSN/XBLA with traditional controls. Sure, it'd cost a lot of money, but those games need to get out there again. Great series that was sadly neglected.
Important difference Holmes, this is Nintendo themselves, who are publishing in Japan, confirming it on every european front (even the Swedish Bergsala was confirming it) and not a third-party publisher confirming it.
What you're basically saying here is "We should never trust announcements because once they lied to us." and that's just wrong dude, everything officially points to a release so that's all we can go on.
This would be a whole lot cooler if it came as a wii u download. It could show off how the pad (working as the camera) interacts with whats on screen. Thats a great little tech demo to show off the new system to the older audience if you ask me
@ Sir Tobbii- Director of Resident Evil 4 formally promises that Resident Evil 4 will never be on the PS2, assuring that if you want the game, you'll need to buy it on the Gamecube.
The game is later released on the PS2.
Ranma 1/2 Anything Goes Martial Arts (a SNES game) is announced for release in the United States. Ads are run in major magazines. Cartridges are produced. The game has a solid release date.
The game never comes out, with no explanation.
Wii Vitality sensor. The Last Flight. Sadness. Yeah.
You should never trust announcements. They are a strong guess on the part of developers and publishers. They are not promises.
If more fans understood that, the world would be a better place.
Um...so that's totally my blog post linked in the article. First time that's happened to me. This is pretty awesome. Internet famous, baby.
Also, I would buy the Wii version so hard. With this and the Last Story it looks like my Wii is going to be doing work over the coming months.
Jonathan Holmes is getting hyped for a game where you play underaged girls who love to take photos. The "is it pedophilia or not" jokes just right themselves at this point.
It is ALWAYS time to get hype for Fatal Frame. We were hype for FFIV.....and we got a translation patch when fans did what Nintendon't. Now that the suits over at the big N seem to be relinquishing their iron grasp on some of their second party titles [see: The Last Story] and since Spirit Camera, obviously the more "out there" of the two titles, is making it over...I think it's safe to get a bit hype. Never hurts to let Ninty know about that hype. ;p
I mean....This is a remake of the most successful game in the franchise, loved by fans and critics alike. Assuming this game goes of the script of the original, most of the localization would already be done. At least difficult parts like terminology would be done no matter what. Even if it only comes to Europe, I have no doubt that fans would make a region-lock disabling patch as they did in the FFIV translation.
However, that two pack idea is still totally sweet. I'd do that, yep. Spent 70 bucks on FFIV, and sure as hell I'd buy it again. It was a good game.
Since Nintendo has mentioned very little facts about this supposed Fatal Frame 2 remake, I'm hoping it to be a little bit more than just a remake with better graphics and different control.
It would be really nice if this game turns out to be like the remake of Resident Evil on Game Cube.
I still have my old copies of Fatal Frame and Fatal Frame 2. Jesus, what fun and creepy games. I'd love to see the series come back to the states so more people can experience some creepy shit.
@ GeekyJuuu- I concede. You are correct. It is in fact always the right time to get hype over Fatal Frame. I guess my question is "how hype should we get"?
Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was actually the best selling game in the series Japan, so I'd call that the most successful. It deserves it, too -- I think it may be the best game in the series. Yes, even better than II.
the fataf frame trilogy should be on ps2 classics or an hd remake. nintendo screws the u.s. always when its a game we really want. this is why the wii is the last nintendo console system ill ever buy. starts off great, then dwindles to shovel ware after a year. if they do decide to bring FF2 to wii, it will be because of xseed. not nintendo.
You remind me of comic book nerds who spend the entire time correcting character canon based on the comic books when everyone else is just talking about the movie.
@pedrovay- Oops! my bad, I meant in the US. :x Even then, that may be disproved-I just here most people discussing FFII, players and critics alike. XP
But yeah, FFIV totally deserved the sales it got. It's fantastic, and it's a crying shame that people who aren't into the series enough to know about the patch don't even know they can play it. I'm actually pretty surprised it doesn't seem to have any reprints, with how sales shot up after the news of the translation went live....
First of all Nintendo OWNS the rights to the Fatal Frame series now. There will never be an HD release, unless it is on Wii U. Secondly, thank you Johnathan, the idea of a compilation with 4 would rule since I aalready have 2 on ps2. Has anyone emailed this article to XSEED or any other publishers?
First of all, FFII is pretty freaking fantastic, it really gets you on an emotional level, or at least it did for me, other than the fact that it is scary and eerie nad all that, it has much more than that, again, for me at least, a remake would be epic, but at first i thought it was going to be an atraction ride like the ones in Universal (4D and all), but glad to know it is an actual wii game... the original will always have an special place in my library.
It's on the Wii.... so no, keep your hype level low. If it was on the PS3/360, then it might be worth some buzz. Isn't the Wii supposed to fall between the GameCube and Xbox1 in terms of graphics power? So basically we will technically end up with a game that looks worse than the Xbox1 version all just so you can use the Wiimote which nobody cares about anymore anyway.
Wonder what the chances are of getting Rainfall to add Fatal Frame 4 to the campaign, that's one big omission from the localization game that's always bothered me.

i guess it is true that nintendo does own the Fatal Frame Series(Seems Tecmo sold the rights to them)
Really? I thought you were better than that, Holmes...

I disagree completely, actually. I think Fatal Frame 4 was actually the best game in the series in the end.

My advice? 81% hype.
