Is Heavy Rain coming to PC? photo

Nvidia seems to think that Quantic Dream's latest interactive storytelling adventure isn't a PS3 exclusive. They have the title listed as one of the games "current and upcoming" which can take advantage of their video cards' PhysX GPU-acceleration features.

Of course, we can't say with any certainty whether or not Heavy Rain is going to be available for PCs, but it makes perfect sense to me. Adventure games might not be the craze they were when I was a kid, but there's still a market for them and a game that is as ambitious as Heavy Rain could very well find success there.

I can say with 100% assurance that they would eat this up in Europe on the PC. Point & Click/Adventure titles are still reasonably popular there. It'd definitely sell.

Press Enter to "Jason."

I'm sorry, but the character models of this game still creep the hell out of me. I don't know how anyone could play this game. By the way the look and move, I'd just as soon think they're were zombies I was supposed to shoot.

Funny how the words "Typing of the Dead" were the first thing to come to mind.

(Nothing against the game. Haven't played it, seems alright.)

People in the modding scene might be able to make the characters more realistic looking without the creepy doll look.

Has there ever been a PS3 exclusive that's went to PC?

Physx is on PS3, too. Is it used on the Heavy Rain on that platform? Could just be an error in data entry.

"Heavy Rain was originally planned to be released also for the PC and to use Ageia, with two separate versions of the game to handle the presence or lack of an appropriate physics processing unit on the computer. However, the game became a PlayStation 3 exclusive and the PhysX engine was replaced by the Havok engine"

Wikipedia FTW.

I'm pretty sure PhysX is in use on the PS3 considering it has an NVidia chip.

@Brad

the ps3 lacks the hardware to do physx. the best the ps3 can do is emulate it and it hasn't yet for any game

The Silent Protagonist: Have you actually played Heavy Rain? I agree they look a little weird in videos but while playing the game (three times) I never thought they looked strange at all.

Genebeef: The PS3 has an Nvidia GPU, which is how PhysX is used by most people playing games that support it. I've got no idea if any games actually take advantage of this and I'm way too lazy to look it up, but PhysX is part of the standard PS3 SDK so any developers that want to integrate it are more than capable of doing so. The dedicated PhysX physics card is irrelevant.

Hmmm makes me think twice about buying it on ps3 if it's true. As I always say, pc is the ultimate gaming platform. If you disagree, you just look foolish.

Hmmm I really wanted to get it for ps3 though lol

The PC may be the most powerful platform, but I don't know if I'd call it the ultimate for gaming. Just the DRM alone makes me not even want to delve into it. I do agree that there's no way any console will ever beat a PC in terms of sheer power, though.

The DRM negative strike on PC is losing meaning as consoles use DRM more and more often. Every download title on console has DRM, and now we see DRM on retail games as well with the online gaming codes and such. Give it time.

@Pedro - that's really all I mean. Eventually all console games will hit pc in some form. It may take awhile. But as for graphics/framerate yea it'll also always be ahead.

That said I own consoles for the great exclusives. Don't get me wrong, i can't get by on a pc alone, but given a multiplatform title, the pc version is always superior.

@Genebeef - PhysX was worked into cards without PhysX via software. Furthermore, even Deadly Premonition uses PhysX, and Xbox 360 definitely doen't have any form of hardware implementation for PhysX.

@hpv - No, I haven't because from what I've seen of it, its something that doesn't appeal to me. Point-and-click adventures tend to be better when they're funny because they're actually funny rather than funny because the story and acting is terrible.

FAIL ARTICLE!
It is a Sony exclusive:
http://www.nowgamer.com/news/556/why-heavy-rain-is-a-ps3-exclusive
http://www.gamegrep.com/news/2994-ps3_exclusive_confirmed_heavy_rain_cancelled_for_360/

And also this is the list of PC PhysX games:
http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_physxgames_home.html

Is it just a typo, otherwise it would be on the list as BOTH PC AND PS3.

PCs are better than consoles (hurr hurr), so any console-to-PC port is good news to me. Especially when it's a good game like Heavy Rain.

From the nvidia page. "Below is a partial listing of current and upcoming PhysX titles available for PC and console owners alike. PC titles can take advantage of GPU-accelerated PhysX to provide an enhanced gaming experience."
There are several games on consoles that use PhysX already (Boom Blox,Red Steel,Jericho,Beowulf). This in no way indicates a PC port.

Heavy Rain on PS3 uses Havok. So it is strange, that it's listed in PhysX. And there's also "PC" near it, for those who wonder

@hpv I have played the game and yes, the character models do look weird on several occasions. Most notably when they have to interact with each other. When Ethan kisses his wife in the prologue? Completely inhuman, looked like two dolls were rubbing their faces together. Even holding another character's hand looks completely robotic and fake.

Move your cursor counter clock circular motion then tap your right button then left button and quickly move your scroll wheel up and down aimlessly will let you turn on your in-game computer.

Okay, so I think this is a turd of game.

But I suppose Sony can require a bluray driver and HDMI cable connection to your monitor in order to make this PC transition even more appealing.
