Iran NOT joining the ESRB after all photo

During the Christmas period, we ran a story from The Tehran Times which states that Iran was joining America's ESRB. It seemed weird at the time, and now we know why -- it's not really true.

GamePolitics got a statement from the ESRB which basically said that nobody ever "joins" the ESRB and that its ratings only apply to the US and Canada. The rating board confirmed that "Companies from other countries may submit for rating if the game is to be sold in the U.S. and/or Canadian market... Our ratings apply to games sold in the U.S. and Canada only."

This is a shame. It was about the most interesting thing to have happened during this slow news season.

We didn't want you in our ESRB anyway!

I'm just mad because Iran stole all my pogs and a kickass ninja star slammer.

I missed the rumor the first time around, but I would have had one of those big question mark thought bubbles above my head.

Did that man fashion a perfectly hexagonal stone just to throw at somebody?

I'm guessing that it was a bad translation somewhere. They probably mistakenly thought that ESRB actually was some organization that feels that murdering the victims of rape as "adulterers" is acceptable.
