iPhone 3GS runs Game Boy Advance at over 150FPS, also FF7 photo

New videos of PlayStation and Game Boy Advance emulators running on iPhone 3GS hardware look pretty impressive. There's no jailbreak yet, but when it happens, you'll have a pretty nice pocket GBA on your hands as an iPhone 3GS owner running emulator gpSPhone. How impressive? Try over 200 frames per second clocked while running Pokemon Emerald, even with sound on. See it for yourself in the cracked out demonstration video after the jump.

Only slightly less impressive is the video of Final Fantasy VII running on the psx4iphone emulator. It looks to run nicely and at a decent frame rate, though no sound is included.  Zodttd says that the emulator runs "very speedy" on the 3GS, though the emulation is still rough around the edges. Impressive. Get this going. I would love to have some portable RPG action on the go.

Check out both videos after the jump.

Impressive, I hope the speeds are decent on the iPhone 3G.

I agree Linuxguy :)

It's odd this should pop up as for the first time (IRL) I got to see a jailbreak-ed iPhone/Touch (not sure which). It was my friend in my games design class, he was playing Spyro the Dragon 2 :)

while its good to know that the iphone can do that, i have no use for it, since my psp and wii can run gba games, and the psp runs ps1 stuff.

Both of you are right.. but.. seriously.. do you take your Wii or even your PSP with you everywhere? Because I take my phone everywhere.

Hey Dale North, I was wondering what your destructoid email was because I wanted to ask you something about the Sega Saturn.

Yeah, I think iphones may well give the PSP and DS a run for their money in a very few short years...

Too bad the iPhone is a shitty at being an actual phone.

To clarify, I have both a Wii and a PSP. Both have been.. enabled in the ways you speak of. However, I just don't see the PSP as that practical for every day portable usage. Only for long car rides and things like that is the PSP really practical. It's almost like a laptop (with far inferior internet capabilities in comparison to the iPhone...). However, all that granted, the PSP is FAR superior to the iPhone as a video game system.

But you just got your monthly Atlus fix on the DS!

Also PSN store. I prefer playing this with real buttons on the PSP.

If there's no jailbreak, how did they do this? Did they run it on a dev kit version or something?

How are emulators on phones supposed to work? What about games that need more than one button pressed at once?

Oh god I wish Apple's screening wasn't so rough. I would pay for this on the iPhone. I srsly would. The iPhone really could give the DS and PSP a run for its money here. Lets just hope Apple realizes the potential here. . .

It's interesting that PS1 games run on it but the controls would never work on it with just a touch screen...

@The-Excel

iPhone recognizes multiple touches at once.

Am I supposed to be impressed by the iPhone running the GBA games way too fast to play enjoyably? I don't understand why they'd make a video of that. Why not just show it playing perfectly at 60fps? Its silly.

Its cool that they can do it, but having tried to play GBA games on my ipod Touch, its just a bloody pain. The touchpad isnt nice to use for the buttons, and the screen is very, very small. This is stuff the PSP is just plain better at.

They made a video of it running at 150FPS to show that it is capable of running GBA games at their fullest capacity and then some. There is a frame limiter in the emulator that makes it run at normal speed. This video is just to show that you're not going to get any slowdown playing GBA games.

A lot of people on this site have iphones if you havent noticed, including the ones who run everything. I'd prolly watch you're language the next time you have ignorant un-enlightened garbage come out of your mouth.

I'm sick of people complaining that the psp is too big for practical use and whatnot. It's a damn handheld portable console. The iPhone is not a damn console. My Sony Ericsson from 4 years ago was a better phone than my iPhone. I would be more impressed if the story was about enabling the iphone's earpiece to be louder.

The iPhone is terrible for traditional gaming. The only things that seem to work ok on it are the (mini)games designed for it.
