Anyway I don't think there will be too many defenders of this game, because it looks painfully generic.
We need more IP in this industry, but it looks like this game can't keep up.
Good to read a preview that doesn't sound like it's focused on selling the game, but instead points out some of the problems with it. Those are useful for the gaming public, as well as the developers and publishers. Particularly the developers, who are likely so intrenched in the game that they don't even notice some of these issues.
@ Mr. Andy Dixon and others - I certainly hope you don't feel that I sugar-coated my preview. The title was one I struggled with because I was trying to communicate it as "Inversion: The exact reasons why you should give maybe half a shit about this game" but since that title didn't really fit, I just shortened it to "Why you should care..."
I mean, if anything, I certainly hope people read my full article and the several times where I made a point to show that the game not only took a whole bunch of 'inspiration' from other games in a waning genre, but that it only had one new idea, and that idea was a gimmick that really only succeeded in spurts.
But ah, that's part of the trick of being a preview editor. I'll have to write a blog post about it later when I have time, but it boils down to the fact that you can either be a constantly cynical previewer and just shit on a game even when it's in early stages or you can be someone who looks for the good in games because you want to believe that the industry is constantly evolving, and you're looking for that in every game you play.
I've certainly played a fair share of games and I try to be positive generally as a reviewer - it certainly doesn't mean I get paid off by anyone or that I'm trying to sell the game - I certainly have no stake in it.
I will admit bias though on my part, I tend to be biased towards the genres of games I like and I try not to let that influence my opinion of the games, but it's going to do so no matter. In every preview I've ever written, I try to make sure that people can understand whether I'm incredibly excited for the game or just marginally interested in it.
I don't believe on crapping on a game before it comes out if it shows at least some promise - and when I played the multiplayer of this game, it was at least somewhat fun.
But yeah, it is a good thing that you got to follow up, because if the framerate is still terrible, than this game isn't even a bargain binner.
Personally i'd rathere see bamco localizing more of their japanese IP There is till huge amount of unlocalized namco bandai japanese title, the PS3 alone still have more than five title not localized!
