I didn't play Red Steel. Early reviews of the title did not bode well for it and, frankly, I was already (foolishly) spending a lot of money on Wii launch day. So, if there's any sort of context required to understand the above video, I don't know what it is.
What I do know is that the game is visually appealing for something which appears on Nintendo's console. This trailer shows off enemies that you'll face in Red Steel 2, with a couple enemy types and some bosses revealed. If the MotionPlus functionality works as advertised, it could be a good bit of fun.
I'm still shrugging, though. I know very little about the world Red Steel takes place in as a series and nothing I've seen here is encouraging me to seek more information. Maybe one of you can tell me what I'm missing out on. Convince me, people!

In the first Red Steel, you are basically an American guy rescuing your kidnapped Japanese fiancee, daughter of a wealthy Yakuza-like guy in possession of a very valuable and important sword, which you use to (sluggishly) kill every kind of japanese whacko thrown at you, with the company of your trusty guns. It wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be, it had its fun moments, but definitely not a great game by any means. Red Steel 2, apparently, has absolutely nothing to do with the first one, besides using guns and swords. It looks pretty good actually from what I've seen and previews I've read, I'm kinda excited for it. Maybe it'll be the game that will finally make me go out and buy a damn MotionPlus for my Wiimote.
Meh. The original was terrible. My brother got it at launch and aside from looking like a 64-era title, the controls were a nightmare. We played for about 15 minutes and returned it. That being said, the fact that the sequel is trying to distance itself from the original is a good sign. THAT being said, I'm still not expecting much.
I'm cautiously optimistic, I have been waiting for another decent FPS on the Wii since Prime 3 and for another game to make use of the Motion Plus, plus I really dig the art style.
I've had it since 2006 and only finished it last week. Not because I lost interest back then, but because a game-ending bug crashed my file half way through, refusing to let me load my profile. Its took me this long to bother with it again.
My experience: the core components of the game are utterly terrible, no doubt. It's riddled with glitches (doors that lead to nowhere/phantom soldiers) swordfighting can be mostly done by waggling left and right, and lacks polish to the point you could say it isn't even a finished product. But somehow, I enjoyed playing it. There are some good ideas underneath the layers of messiness/laziness; its a shame that technical aspects let the whole product down.
I'll need some convincing before I buy a sequel to Red Steel, but seems like Ubisoft likes sticking with established franchise names and making them completely different. Maybe it will surprise me and be amazing like Far Cry 2.
Well, the first game was about an American who was intent on proving white supremacy by raping asian women and being better at guns and swords than trained asian assassins. You know, 'cause he's white and thus superior.
The gameplay was passable. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't exactly unplayable. But I had a hard time playing it because of the awful plot and designs. It seriously feels like playing an American weeaboo's white supremacist wank fantasy. You sold yet?
Yeah, I always did kind of wonder why an untrained (but caucasian) guy was able to take on various Yakuza gangs and manage to both outgun them and beat them with their own traditional weapon.
Then again, if The Last Samurai has taught me anything, a white guy will be able to master an ancient and honored style of swordsmanship and surpass all of his Asian peers in less than a few months.
Well, I enjoyed the first Red Steel. It wasn't very remarkable, average shooter for the most part. Controls didn't bother me, but the graphics were serviceable. Glitchy as hell too. But I got it for $10 when I got No More Heroes, so I'm not really complaining.
Red Steel 2 certainly looks like it could be good. The new setting and storyline should provide the fresh start it needs. Absolutely gorgeous that's for sure, but many of the previews haven't exactly been optimistic. They're even employing QTEs. Optimistic and looking forward to it, but I'm not putting down my money just yet.
Red steel was indeed an odd beast. Nothing about it was GOOD, from the controls to the textures to the lighting to he level design to the voice acting... I could go on. And the plot was wheeew anyway... what I had with red steel was one night of WOO I CAN SAMURAI THESE FUCKAS WITH MA WIIMOTE ha. And that night was well, probably not topped by the Wii since. Standing there in my undies in the living room, chopping shit, screaming HIIIIIIIYAAAAAAAaaa, occasionally stepping on a cat... I honestly haven't turned my Wii on in months... so ivenever tried a motion plus game, but to my limited knowledge, no game before or since has reached for the right style of AWESOME for me. Need a Wii fencing (but for the love of God, not Olympic or competition style!!! Badass fencing!!) game one of these days...
I'm on the fence for this one. After Red Steel wasn't that good of a game due to the controls, I'm going to see first if the MotionPlus grealtly improves it.
Well...Ubi got help from Nintendo to make the game. No less than the uber-talented folks at Retro Studios gave Ubi a helping hand.

The game runs at 60 fps. I'd say "locked" there, but it's not, because some parts run at...85 fps.

Not only does it utilize Motion Plus (and it looks like it works fantastically), but the slashing and shooting scheme is fully customizable.

(Dig the pointer smoothness adjustment. If Wii shooters have always felt too twitchy to you, this little slider is a godsend.)
Finally, Ubisoft believes in this game enough to actually advertise it.

From what little I see of the combat, it looks like what Mad World could've been if it had any depth. Niiiiice. The battles look like they'll be entertaining enough, at least. I'll give the game a shot.

Hate to offend him, because he's a fucking legend, but it just tickled me real good.
It's an Ubisoft game, but I am looking forward to it. I am a big fan of spaghetti western.

May do a blog on this game sometime soon.
