Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

We were all wondering what H.A.W.X. was going to be about after finding out that Ubisoft trademarked the title. IGN got the exclusive and now we know. Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. is a jet fighting game and I'm sure Ace Combat fans are tenting their pants over this announcement. The game will come out for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 this fall and will contain over 50 fighter jets. There will also be four-player jump in/out co-op, and up to 16-player multiplayer dogfights.

The game is set in the year 2012 and the world has become dependent on private military companies. The jets will feature an Enhanced Reality System, which sounds like it's going to make piloting the jets extremely easy. While this system is on, you'll have tons of perks on your jet that will keep you safe during the game. If you don't feel like being babysat, though, you can turn the ERS off, but you're left a lot more vulnerable.

I don't know about you, but this is the last thing I was expecting from Ubisoft when they announced they were moving away from shooter games. I know a ton of people that love the flight games and the only really good one on the market has always been Ace Combat. H.A.W.X. looks to blow the Ace Combat series out of the sky, though, with all its features. Four-player co-op sounds amazing, and fighting against 15 other jets in multiplayer just has me salivating like crazy. What are your thoughts?

[Thanks, power-glove!]

Not really a reference as much as each series takes place in the same universe.

This could potentially be awesome, but just as easily be lame. If its anything like a little more realistic Warhawk, then count me in.

The title angers me.

The game will probably be good, but that's no excuse to add an 'x' to the back of 'hawks'.

Tom Clancy? Tom Clancy! Tom Clancy...Tom Clancy kart racer? Tom Clancy! Tom Clancy Tetris with Tom Clancy as presented by Tom Clancy in conjunction with Tom Clancy. Coming up, Tom Clancy, then, Tom Clancy then a special trailer for out new Tom Clancy game, Tom Clancy and the Tom Clancy Tom Clancy. Will Tom Clancy be able to save Tom Clancy from Tom Clancy before Tom Clancy kills Tom Clancy? Only Ubisoft knows! Oh and this just in, Ubisoft is now known as Tom Clancy games, makers of Tom Clancy and Tom Clancy games, by Tom Clancy as presented by Tom Clancy!

Aw, come on, Hamza...Star Fox 64 was pretty awesome for its time.

They have every right to add the "X" to the name. The "X" indicates that this game is EXTREME, whereas other titles are not.

i just love the fly simulators based on military fighters.
Anyone of you tried "D.I.D. F-22"? Or any of the flight simulators from Jane´s?

This one looks refreshing, I hope it is.

The title makes the game sound a little... well... cheasey. But I guess spelling mistakes, and acronyms makes things better.

@Velt: DID's F-22 was definitely a great game.

While I applaud HAWX inclusion of an in-helmet HUD in the preview video, I have to say that seeing a Rafale roaring around at 100 ft above the deck outrunning a SAM is a little Bruckheimer for my tastes.

Awesome. Now that I think about it, there really aren't enough flight sim games. This could be really cool. Especially with 4-player co-op.

OH, and let me temper my plaintive attitude above by stating that if this game includes an approximation of what the F-23 might have been, I'll love it regardless of its failings.

Ace combat may be the best flight game on consoles, but its by far the best on any platform. some of the best Flight sims are FSX, CFS3, Lock on Modern air combat, Falcon 4.0, IL2:FB

Alright ubisoft, stop it, stop it right now. Stop coming up with random ass Tom Clancy games out of no where while you completely ignore Hobocell aka SC:Conviction. Really now, conviction was announced before Vegas 2, before Endward, Before HAWX, and before this mysterious new Ghost Recon game AND WHERE THE FUCK IS IT!?

I want to play as hobo Sam Fisher beating people up goddamnit!

You think in this case, where anyone on the PC will want a joystick, they'll finally let us play with the console guys?...

Another Tom Clancy title is always welcome and it will probably be very good. I just hope that Ubisoft dont fuck up the achievements like they did with the fantastic Special Ops achievement in Vegas 1 and the Private First Class and Freedom Shall Prevail achievements in Vegas 2 -_-

I wonder if you'll be able to choose from a selection of badass modern warplanes, or if you're only in that Rafale-looking thing that can hold together under ridiculous negative-G.

I saw Top Gun the other night, hadn't seen it in weeks. Made me break out AC6 again. I'll be keeping a careful eye on this one...

I like how all the Tom McClancy games connect with one another. Ghost Recon to HAWX to Splinter Cell... Now I just need to see how Rainbow six ties into everything. Speaking of which, why not make a MMO from all the McClancy games or have a big battle like Battlefield has it... One can dream.
