In Destructoid's neverending quest to inspire thoughtful discussion and debate (when we aren't posting pictures of women with SNES controllers over their nipples, of course), I'm proud to present the first in what will hopefully a new monthly feature program: the Destructoid Monthly Theme.

But this is no average article series where the readers have no real input outside of leaving alternately angry and supportive comments -- no, dear readers, this is a call to arms. This is an opportunity for you to be on the front page of Dtoid, and, even better, prove to everyone what a smart person you are.

It works like this: I propose a theme for the month and Dtoid's editors will write their own takes on that theme. While they do that, any reader can post a community blog also tackling that theme. Whichever cblogs contain the most interesting take on the theme, or consist of the most informed and intelligent debate, will be promoted to Dtoid's front page.

So, what does this mean for you, the reader? It means that it's now easier than ever to get on the Destructoid front page. All you've gotta do is discuss a topic with some degree of insightfulness, and, should some interesting discussion arise out if it, then BAM -- you're on the front page.

Tomorrow, I will unveil this month's theme. After that, both Destructoid editors and cbloggers are free to join in on the discussion (of which there will hopefully be a lot).

Any questions? Comments? Ideas? Lemme know.

Is there a prize involved other than featured status?

I'm waiting for everyone in the office to leave so I can eat my pizza for lunch. They all had BBQ and I didn't want any.

Oh, right...

Yes, I like the idea. I'll be interested to see where it goes.

I give this article a 7 out of 10.

Seems liek a cool idea, unless of course all the debate goes into the first clog on the them and tehn the rest are just repeats...Hopefully they'll be open enough that this won't happen.

The theme had better be black history for February.

...I can already tell that I won't be promoted. What's intelligent discussion? I only speak in memes and tongues.

At the moment, the sole prize is getting your intelligence highlighted on the Dtoid front page. Should this feature really take off, though, we're definitely looking into adding more rewards for starting intelligent discussion.

I only rate things in stars.

Oh, I meant S.T.A.R.S.

So, unless you're a cop from Raccoon City, your threat holds no water.

Can this month's theme be videogame boobs? I'm good at talking about boobs and videogames, so mixing them would be a good fit :3

Proposed topic: the drought of good character development in most games. I've blogged about it before, but I would like to hear takes on the topic from editors and other community members.

Blog spam in 3... 2... 1...

Seriously though, I worry the cblogs aren't really developed enough to support something like this, but I guess we'll see how it goes.

Blogging for me is like... GTA, or any sandboxy type game. When faced with a world of choice (and once the missions start to suck), it's really hard for a person like me to find something to do... other than steal cars and kill hookers.

This is a very welcomed idea in my books and gives me something to focus on.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
