The latest title in the popular line of Battlefield games is a major overhaul -- both physically and economically -- from the traditional look and feel of the series. Battlefield Heroes is looking a little (well, a lot) like Team Fortress 2, but that's definitely not a bad thing.
Set for a summer 08 release via download, Battlefield Heroes is one game that we can all afford without skimping out on other areas of our personal lives. At the low, low price of free, you'll finally be able to pay your electric bill and play a shiny new shooter with your online buddies -- all without resorting to piracy.
Commenting on Battlefield Heroes, Senior Producer at EA DICE, Ben Cousins, had this to say:
"There's something here for all types of players -- be it our core Battlefield fans or casual gamers. With the new online model, we will continually add new content to keep the game fresh and keep players engaged, while integrating player feedback in real time. As a game developer, it is such a cool new way to make games."
There is one slight catch though: in order to actually, y'know, fund the game, EA has opted to support ads, and micro-transactions will surely be in no short supply. But hey, as long as I'm not going to be virtually raped with either high prices or a lack of killer content, there's no reason to not like this business model. Right?
Is it just me or does this sound like Steam, except you have to pay to keep playing (like Guild Wars)?
Also, TF2 rip-off for the epic lose.
I'll probably try it just because it's free.
OR DO I?
That is one hot picture.
Meh, I'll try it because it's free. And I'll reserve judgment until then.
First it was lame, now it's just sad.
I wish it wasn't for all the 10 y/o fanboys who keep buying the FIFA/NBA/NFS games so they would stop making em every fucking year already. (and don't tell me the sports division is an entire different departments. i couldn't care less - they need to hire people to create games, not just program them.)
It didn´t go well with spiderman, or Star Wars and ir won´t be good on TF2.
Complain and whine about ads (even though they probably won't be intrusive to my gaming experience).
Complain that I may have to buy maps and other items even though the core game is free.
Have I covered all the attitudes, comments, and opinions that the usual gamer is most likely to have?
