If you have yet to experience the magical brilliance of Super Mario Galaxy's soundtrack, then we'll tell you that you're in for a musical experience that is just as exciting and amazing as the game is. Music4Games interviewed the two musical masterminds behind this score: Mahito Yokota, and the famed Mario and Zelda series composer Koji Kondo.

In the interview, the team talks about the over 100 minutes of musical score in depth, covering gameplay interaction, compositional techniques, and improvements in console sound capabilities. They also touch on the choice to add fully orchestrated music to Galaxy's score.

"We created an orchestra score this time, because we wanted to express magnificence of the universe and cool ambiance," Koji Kondo said. "We created game music that matches with the game universe, which brought about totally different taste compared with the tropical image of previous Mario music."

The soundtrack is absolutely amazing. I have almost forty stars and the soundtrack just keeps getting better. I never minded them not being orchestrated...but now that I've heard it I could never go back.

I listened to some of the music from Galaxy the other day and, I have to admit, it is gorgeous.
This makes the wait until Monday morning all the more painful.

I would like to hear some samples of this soundtrack. It sounds like Koji put LOTS of effort into this one.

Koji Kondo said in old interview:

"Mario tunes reflect the action-oriented nature of the gameplay, while Zelda tunes accentuate ambiance of the environments. I strive to make each piece recognizable within two to three seconds, to serve as a signpost for the player to see where he's arrived."

Here's one sample of Mario Galaxy's orchestra music.

Great to hear that Galaxy is taking another "step" forward. Given this amazing duo have been working together for a long while. 2cds.. hehe wonder if they might release the soundtrack early next year.

I listen to that YouTube clip at least one time a day. I absolutely love it. I can't wait to hear the rest of the music in the game. And please, God, please, let them release a soundtrack album.
