Because releasing an update to a game is such a horrible thing.
Zelda 3D, Metal Gear remakes, PS3 HD collections, etc. get no criticism. But Capcom fighters? Pfft, fuck 'em.

The difference being that all the updates you mentioned are improved versions of old games that are unavailable on current platforms. Capcom release their games, taking your £40, only to then release a "Super" version 6-12 months later, asking for a further £25, and now SSFIV has a THIRD edition for a further £25. All on the same platforms. That really just takes the piss.

@DeadnBuried: Capcom has lost their way? Megaman has 10 games in the main series alone, The first 8 of which came out in a span of 9 years (1987-1996). Street Fighter II has had five home console iterations to date. What universe have you been living in where this wasn't the case with Capcom? You're also making a bit of an irrational assumption that Third Strike will have another iteration, because it's the last iteration of a game that has already been perfected: Street Fighter III. If you're going to bitch about the cost of buying multiple iterations, you have a few options: 1. be patient and wait for another iteration to come out 2. Pick up a different fighting game series 3. Drop video games as a hobby altogether if you don't have the appropriate sums of money to keep fueling your desires. They have brought Third Strike to the current console generation because it will attract fans of Street Fighter both old and new.
