Excited for dark souls regardless
The final boss in the game is a formality.... Hes not supposed to be hard. Hes a mutated weakend form of once powerful king.... Its not about the story after beating the boss in each world
It's all about knowing the sequence of worlds to obtain/unlock certain items and memorizing enemy patterns. A fast speedrun is typically from someone who's played the game multiple times (new game+, ad nauseum) and doesn't reflect all the trial/error they would have experienced the first time through.
Enh...Demon's Souls gets name dropped a lot as an impossible game because of it's reputation, but it's really not that hard. You can't really go by speedruns, but if you have any grasp of video games in general, your reflexes will prevail nine times out of ten.
The game is 90% about dodging, and many bosses can be defeated at range without any confrontation what-so-ever. I think a lot of the people who said Demon's Souls was "impossible" didn't bother to beat Phalanx. You just need to take your time, and think, and you'll be alright. The great part is that the game is still out to get you, as Morbid pointed out, and always keeps you on your toes.
Gotta know when to fold 'em, right? Or, in this case, when to trade 'em in for store credit.
i also hope the next 3D Castlevania would play like this.
Demons Souls reminds me of the old games, where timing is required, you cannot just rush things to finish the level, bosses are hard but rewarding, and the sense of loneliness definitely feels the tension here. imagine if a 3D Castlevania where to play like Demon's Souls but with music with Michiru Yamane and art by Ayami Kojima(curse of darkness and lament of innocence style). add notable bosses like Death and Dracula as well as succubus and frankenstein monster and i would buy 3 copies of it :P
