Interplay gets more money for MMO, 'Project: V13' photo

Today, Interplay announced that funding for the Fallout MMO ‘Project: V13’ has been secured thanks to a partnership with Masthead Studios. ‘Project V13’ sounds catchy, but its only a code name for an MMO that the company has had in development since 2007.

Rumor has it that ‘Project V13’ is a Fallout MMO. When Interplay sold Fallout to Bethesda, they kept the rights to create an MMO based on the property. Our tipster, community member dyslixec, points out that the ‘V13’ part of the name could refer to the infamous Vault 13 - the place where the journey begins -- in the original Fallout.

Subtle hint? Probably. No word on release, of course, but at least we know progress is still being made.

[Thanks, dyslixec!]

Interplay kept the rights to create a Fallout MMO as long as they attained funding for and started it by April 2009, IIRC. Hence why news is actually coming out.

Sweet, a post apocalyptic Fallout MMO. Choose your faction! Super Mutant? Brotherhood? NCR? Or perhaps the Enclave? I hope there is some variation in the environment levels. Cause looking at brown ruined cities tends to get boring. Is the gameplay going to be like that of Fallout 1&2? Or is it going to be like Fallout 3? While this news of a Fallout MMO is exciting, I wish that Interplay resurrects Van Buren Fallout 3. The game was near completion and was a shame that it got cancelled.

Guh.... I don't know. I think people will still bitch and whine like they did with Fallout 3.

And they complain about Fallout 3 , a Fallout MMO will COMPLETELY ruin the original games depression and loneliness ...

Ugh.

Fallout as a franchise has been dead since the day Black Isle Studio's folded shop.

Just let it die before Interplay or Bethesda rapes it any further

I remain conflicted by this project, yet intrigued regardless of the outcome. It's kind of like being happy and mad at the same time.

Someone dug up Interplay's memos a while back. I read them on No Mutants Allowed. I've been waiting for more info on this and I was worried it had been sacked. Good to know Interplay hasn't kicked the bucket just yet. I suppose that's all just the luck and skill of Herve Caen and his magical money fingers. Oh, and that big fat cash income when they sold Fallout to Bethesda. And, uh... Herve's mysterious European money shifting. Herve says "Psssssh! Three million dolla is no debt, you debt!" Well said. Way to stick it to the man, Herve.

LOL at people who likely never played the first two thinking a soulless, glitchy Oblivion mod with guns is anything like the first two games in mood or humor.
