When David Jaffe told readers at GamePro to be on the lookout for clues as to what Eat Sleep Play's next game would be within Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition itself, he apparently wasn't kidding.
Compliments of the Internet Matlocks over at GameFAQs, we now know that the answer was right in front of us the entire time -- a Twisted Metal game for the PS3! Using advanced cryptography codebreaking tactics known only to the NSA and forumites, member finman was able to deduce the following:
"At several points in The Dark Past documentary numbers flash on the screen. The numbers correspond to the letters in the alphabet.
- At the 10:30 mark - 13 05 20 01 12 = METAL
- At the 13:00 mark - 09 19 = IS
- At the 17:15 mark - 03 15 13 09 14 07 = COMING
-At the 18:50 mark - 15 14 = ON
-At the 26:00 mark - 16 19 20 08 18 05 05 = PSTHREE
METAL IS COMING ON PSTHREE"
Talk about Mr. Obvious! For vehicular combat game fans, this is without a doubt, outstanding news. Now for the important stuff: are we talking about a PSN-type game, or a full-fledged Blu-ray beauty? After all, we really need a story mode, David.
[Thanks, Brett!]
Uh Twisted Metal Black was great.
Anyway, it would be hilarious if it was another game with "Metal" in the title that was coming to the PS3, because that message seems a little TOO obvious.
Anyway, a true Twisted Metal Black sequel would get me to buy a PS3. I loved that game on PS2.
I remember renting and loving Twisted Metal: Black back in the early PS2 days, and even though I figured this would happen eventually, it’s good to see some purported proof!
@Gameboi: Er, what’s a CSA? Did you mean NSA or CIA, perhaps?
Guns... check
Cars.... check
Way to make my nightmares come to life.
Actually it would have come true with just clowns.
Anyway, this is good news. Black was great on PS2 but it sucked that online play was relegated to a bonus release that stripped out a lot and had no voice chat.
Head-On was good but was on PSP so online play was just as limited. Now Head-On is on PS2 and they had the chance to have proper online play and they dropped the ball.
It'll be nice to finally have a proper online Twisted Metal after all these years. I have a feeling it's going to end up being a PSN game though...
Twisted Metal was the very first PlayStation game I remember seeing in person, and I loved it. Brings back good memories, that's for sure.
Also, it looks like Sweet Tooth is taking a dump in that pic. I wonder if he shits ice cream?
That is all.
Give me Twisted Metal + Awesome soundtrack all wrapped in a Burnout:Paradise type open world and online scheme and I'll be VERY happy.
