From a web developers standpoint, IE makes life so much harder for everyone involved. Something you design will look exactly how it should on everything EXCEPT IE. It's supposed to follow web standards but fails at every turn.

A significant portion of IE's install base is windows based work PCs that have IE as the default browser and where people are often not permitted to install another browser.
I use IE9, Chrome and Firefox interchangeably. To be honest I don't think any of them really do what I want from a browser, even after I have spent a lot of time customising them. I understand why IE is hated, but I still find that all three present certain pages better than the others.

Internet Explorer on Xbox is better than no Web browser at all. Its can't possibly be any worse than the shitty PS3 browser.
I'm reading this site in IE9. I use IE9 and the beta channel version of Chrome. Both are quite fast and stable.
IE6/7 were both tolerable at the time, but Netscape was pretty much the only alternative. And this is the time: ~10 plus years ago. IE8 was a large improvement, but MS was still pretty far behind Firefox and not very standards compliant. With IE9 the devteam at MS finally extracted their heads from their colons and strictly adhered to web standards, rewrote the page renderer (and added hardware acceleration), and made many other improvements.

@copyofcopy and @indigit4l: Chrome actually surpassed IE in market share a few weeks ago according to one analysis. IE has been trending downward for the last few years, and Chrome usage has been surging recently.
Also, agree with CookieSlayer666 so much. As a developer, IE absolutely sucks. It's gotten better, but only incrementally, whereas all of the other major players are making leaps and bounds.

Not many I know use IE, it's just now catching up to the others. Firefox is getting on my nerves as AVG just bogs it down and Chrome wont let me disable my google+ and searches... I'm happy to ignore IE tho, I use the vita browser and while shiznitty it works for on the go instead of wasting my phone's battery. the PS3 browser I havent used in forever and it's certainly not worthy at all.

the current versions of IE and chrome are both fine browsers. my least favorite is actually firefox - it'd been my main choice for the past couple years but it started randomly crashing almost daily i decided to try chrome. nowadays i use all 3 for different things.
and although i'm sure i wont end up using it that much, the availability of a fully functional browser (unlike sony and nintendo's offerings) built in to my xbox is a nice little feature to have.

As of April 2012, Internet explorer is still the most used browser with a penetration of 48.28%.
Chrome sits at 3rd with 19.39% behind FireFox's with 19.72%.
I don't know what analysis you saw, but it was dead-wrong.

Every single browser has quirks. Not one, NOT ONE of them follow the W3 standards as they should, they ALL use shortcuts to accelerate page display. Firefox uses a lost of internal fixes to allow for HTML5 "compatibility" that screw up on other browsers.
Heck, the only browser that has has full HTML5 and CSS3 compatibility is Opera 11, and it SUCKS.

IE9 isn't actually that bad, not amazing, but not bad. Try to make yourself look less stupid next time please, I'm getting really sick of this browser fanboyism. I feel like it's worst kind of fanboyism.

1) I like the layout. I keep it simple with the address bar, search field to the right of that, and bookmarks in a bar below that are only icons with no text (saves space).
2) Adblock Plus
3) Tons of other great plugins, esp. for webdev.

Sounds like a waste of 18 months to me. why put a crappy browser on a crappy system? Much like IE is only good for downloading other browsers, playing a 360 is only good for realizing how far superior the PS3 is!

The only time ive never opened up IE is to download Firefox and/or Chrome, otherwise i uninstall that shit.
IE has gotten a lot more stable the past few years and it arguably is one of the most stable browsers out there. But yeah, they need to work on the design and visual aesthetic like Chrome/Firefox.
I haven't used IE in years. I'd consider trying it if chrome just wasn't so damned convenient with my Google fanboyism life. If I'm really honest though the only reason I use chrome over Firefox is I like my F6 shortcut key going to the address bar. That's it.
i am forced to use IE at work because some of our software only runs on IE because it was designed before 2002. and companies hate having to find upgrades to software if it still works. even though if you upgrade to a newer version of IE that software no longer works because its dependent on an older version.

I use comodo dragaon, and have used all the browsers mentioned even maxathon. The only thing I think is ridiculous is the the time and money spent to bring IE to Xbox.
IE is still one of, if not the most used browser on Windows. IE6 was shit, IE7/8 were competent but still far from where Firefox and Chrome were at that time, and IE9 is honestly on par with both of them, in terms of performance and usability.
But the fact that it took them 18 months to develop a fucking console web browser that used the voice commands they already had built into Kinect and the ability to use your smartphone as a trackpad is flat out ridiculous. No wonder why Microsoft is having a harder and harder time profiting from their Xbox division.

I love how people keep saying "Who uses IE any more?" or whatever.. Not that even *I* use it it any more (havent for a decade) for anything more then Bing Point searches (free shit for quick searching is free after all), but its not the point at all... Point is Microsoft has a search engine, and its finally coming to their system after 7 years or so...

I used to use Firefox but that was version 8 point something. I decided to update to 12 to see what had changed and was greeted by a browser that had some rather notable issues. I'll admit it might have been an add on that didn't have support for 12 but I couldn't be bothered to troubleshoot which one particularly since this was over a week after the release of 12 and the severe lag, increased resource usage, and deciding to stop using my pinned shortcut in favour of a new one it spontaneously created doesn't seem like an add on issue. I'm content with Chrome now since I was able to transfer my add on's over to a Chrome version or equivalent of everything I had in Firefox.
