Insomniac: 'We won't be making any more Resistances' photo

Damn, son. Just put it all out there.

Insomniac CES Ted Price told VG247 how it would be from here on out, in the most direct way possible: "We won’t be making any more Resistances."

Resistance 3 was easily the best of the series, and I'd say ended the series on a high note. Too bad that no one played it. We still have the upcoming Vita title Resistance: Burning Skies to look forward to, but Sony should probably kill it there and move on.

Are you all sad corgi face about this news?

Resistance 3 is my favorite first-person shooter of 2011 so this is definitely sad news indeed.

I was afraid Insomniac Games would abandon the franchise after hearing their comments "Maybe someone else will make Resistance 4." *sigh*

Hopefully whoever Sony picks next respects Insomniac's commitment to a great story, great gameplay (NO regenerating health and NO weapon limits), and most of all, FUN!

Thank you for three great games, Insomniac. Please don't abandon the Ratchet & Clank series though (thinks of High Impact Games and shivers).

That's sad, but they left that series in a good place. Honestly though, I cringe everytime I hear the phrase 'God of War 4' so I'm glad Insomniac has the sense to end their story.

I still think Fall of Man was the best. Resistance 3 was a not too distant 2nd, but all memory of Resistance 2 should be scoured from existence.

Well they're a multiplatform dev now so they can't really make Resistance for non-Sony consoles anyways.

All I ask is that Sony puts a team to work on a Resistance game based solely on R2's 8-player coop mode. It can even be a PSN release, or maybe for the Vita, but it has to get made. They didn't give us a DLC map pack for the mode in R2 so it's the least they can do.

Nuts. The Resistance was never really the best series of shooters, but they had some interesting guns and the games were vastly different from each in design and basic gameplay. Each one managed to surprise me with just how much changed from game to game. It sucks, but I'm glad Insomniac is making things that are exciting to them instead of phoning in a couple of unnecessary sequels.

Can't say I'm surprised, really. Hopefully they can come up with a better IP.

Kind of a shame. Resistance 3 may be a good game, but I'll never know since I can't get past the horribleness that was 2. (yeah, I'm one of those idiots who has to play games in order and all that)

Really? I might have to give it a second look then, because the demo was godawful.

The problem with why no one played R3 is when they released it. They sandwiched it in the middle many major game releases and their marketing for the game was lame/non-existant. Don't talk about your game and throw it out there with other games that are being talked about...what do you think happens?

What a damn shame. Seriously, Resistance 3 was one of the best shooters of 2011 and nobody played it. It just rotted on shelves for no reason.

Since both are likely to go on sale in the immediate future, would people recommend picking up Resistance 3 over Killzone 3? I've played both series, but haven't gotten to their latest installments yet.

I wanted them to expand on the co op from resistence 2 so bad! They had such a good idea and it worked so fuckin well. If they released a DLC game that was just resistence 8 player co op mode, all fleshed out that would be amazing. The problem is, no one would play it most likely.

I agree 100% the online co-op in R2 was amazing, I sunk many, many hours into it and was hoping they would do something similar for R3.

KZ3. It's the better game hands down. That being said, I bought R3 instead of Gears of War 3 because I got a little tired of Gears and I do not regret my purchase. If you got a little franchise fatigue on Killzone, Resistance is certain to offer something a little different than what you're probably used to.

I haven't played three yet, I don't no why but it almost felt like it was forced into the shadows, I'll pick it up soon hopefully, I really hope this means insomniac devote all there time into making another Ratchet&Clank, I love those games.

The first didn't impress me, and the following two made me wish Insomniac stuck to more traditional R&C games. I miss the glory days of that series on PS2.
That being said, this is bad news for the fans.

I liked Resistance 1 the best... couch buddy co-op, a fun story that was a new IP, I actually liked the sepia wash colors and the online was so much fun. Resistance 2 was ok, but the best part was the co-op online. I never bought Resistance 3 (though I'll pick it up eventually for the single player portion), but the online was too much like a dozen other games out there. It's a bit sad that the series is done, but I can sort of see why... the games didn't grow and expand on their initial success but instead took to copying perks and rank ups and other stuff from other games.

Still.. they apparently have a new co-op cross platform IP so hopefully they keep true to their own vision and don't go the way of conformity.

Resistance 3's campaign was pretty awesome from what I've played of it.. I've always loved the story of Resistance. It's it's own take on War Of The Worlds. Earth's past meets superior alien forces. I loved the first games vibe of old WWII era tech clashing against seemingly unstoppable futuristic guns.

Resistance 3 really drove home that feeling much like the first did. Resistance 2 had it's moments but it's the worst of the 3. Far and away Sony's most underrated series this gen, with IMO a much more relatable and entertaining Sci-Fi story than anything Halo could dream up (trollololol?)

I didnt enjoy Resistance 3, there was basically no story, no conclusion, lame characters and boring set pieces. The only good thing about it were the variety of weapons, but that doesnt sell a game. Exactly the reason why it flopped!

Resistance 3 also brought back online & couch co-op for it's campaign. It looks real nice too compared to the other games. Dunno why but I always prefered this series to Killzone. Definitely sad to see it go.

In my opinion, Resistance 3 was the worst entry in the series. 1 and 2 had been more like Halo/ Half-Life, with larger scale open levels. Everything in 3 was compartmentalized and closed off, with doors literally slamming shut behind you. Not to mention, Resistance 2 had some of my favorite co-op and they got rid of it.

I really liked the series, but I feel like it was over after 2 anyway.

To be honest, it just makes me excited to hear what comes next from them. Insomniac are a great dev team, but it's their name not their IPs that sell their games to me.

I think I'm the only person who liked 2 better than 1. Unfortunately, I haven't played 3 yet since my PS3 broke, so I can't comment on that.

Either way, it's always sad to see an IP "die", but five games is probably enough.

Good, finally a developer has the balls to just stop making a game before it becomes over saturated crap that only exists to turn a buck. Kudos to Insomniac.

Now if Sony will allow them to continue this stance, or try to figure a way to take the series elsewhere, is another story. Sony seems pretty invested in that series after all.

Cant say Im surprised. They ended the series so thoroughly with the end of the third one. Glad they arent forcing more out of it cuz I think the idea well is tapped when it comes to resistance. Unappreciated final game though to say the least. All the people saying it was generic are just wrong.

We've got three PS3 games, a PSP game and a Vita game, so you can't really say the series was cut down in its prime. It had a good run; this isn't a bad time to end it. My only problem is that Resistance 3 had an open-ended conclusion that seemed to hint at a sequel.

I would have liked one final game, exploring the origins of the Chimera virus. They could set it in Russia, and maybe have the player find themselves on the Chimeran home planet by the end or something. Oh well, maybe they'll return to the series five or ten years down the line?

I've always kind of hated Insomniac games altogether, they're a sequel factory, for some that's great but I always found it boring. R3 on the other hand actually had some interesting set-piece design, with multiple AIs going at it and environments large enough to allow different strategies that cater to different weapons. I also really, really liked the Mutator.

That game did owe everything to Half life 2, though.

There are so many decent to good franchises this generation that I really hope don't go to shit, but money talks.
