i think its a decent selection having played insomniacs games i can see why they would pick these.

i loved RDR. the story may have sucked a little bit, but the game play is what kept me busy for 200+ hours.
rockstar is an amazing company and they proved it with RDR. it makes me extremely excited about L.A. Noire.

Why all the hate for RDR? I had tons of fun with that game, can't think of any major faults. In fact, it's the first Rockstar game I've beaten to 100%!
Shit yeah! Of course, wonder why this is the first list I've seen with Rockband 3 in it?! To be honest, despite still playing a whole lot of it, it kinda slipped my mind too.

And for all of you praising the multiplatform love here, it's not weird at all considering they are making a new game on the 360 also. That, and the simple fact that they are gamers and real gamers don't hate on platforms ffs. They just love games. :)

I get upset when 2010 was such an incredible year and so many great games and developers deserve recognition and they get shoved out of the way for crap like Red Dead Redemption consistently across the board.
I guess I can applaud them for including Rock Band 3 which is just an absolute gem of game design.
But I dunno. It's frustrating. There are obvious trends right now that seem to be influencing the way everyone is remembering and rewarding in 2010 and it's upsetting. I still have yet to hear a good argument for Red Dead's gameplay. Just it's presentation, which I agree is fantastic. One of the best this year. But can incredible presentation and gameplay that just works but isn't anything special be enough to be GOTY? That, in my opinion, is the burning question and what I've seen for the most part is everyone thinks the answer is "yes". That bothers me.

I guess I see your point; RDR's gameplay certainly wasn't anything new.
However, presentation goes a LONG way to making a mediocre game into an exellent one. Take BioShock, for example. Vanilla shooter, but my God the presentation!

@xzyliac I would rather red dead get all the praise then call of duty stealing all the game sales for other potential games.
I'm going to chime in with Xzyliac and say RDR was just not that good. It wasn't bad, but I even found GTAIV's Gay Tony expansion TONS better than RDR.
It was just so...boring. Sure, it had a lot to do, but was hunting glitched hawk-men really fun, or did you just really like the western environment in an era that barely has any non-shit western games?

The crazy/random encounters, expansive environment, and deliberate pace really did it for me. Aside from glitches (I didn't hit many myself), great "emergent" moments happened, like merely walking to a shop, and having that random (if repeated) attacked prostitute scenario happen. Or when a fierce storm rolls into town during a gunfight.
I'm also not at all over solid (if by the book) cover shooters. If I had played a bunch of them, I imagine I'd feel different about the whole thing.
Also, Gay Tony was a really brilliant episode. I wish we had more GTAIV DLC.

I really like RDR. All things considered, it's my GOTY. I also quite enjoy the gameplay aspect of it. You may think I'm just some idiot who doesn't know what a good game is. But the fact is, I really enjoyed playing it, along with millions of other people, and you shouldn't be bothered because we do.
