It's funny, they're attached to all these studios that made AAA PS3 games (Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch) and their only modern contribution to the gaming scene is Resistance.

I just wish game companies would understand that some people do not want to go home from work and deal with other people. They just want to escape for a bit. That is my biggest drawback from buying many multiplayer games. I am a teacher and having to talk with kids all day then go home and deal with more kids is not what I want to have.

hmm... for a local co-op R&C with less suck how about we have player 1, as clank, driving a selection of si-fi style vehicles (with handling/armor upgrades) and give player 2, as ratchet, vehicle mounted silly weapons (giraffe ray anyone?). Then in single player mode it reverts to 3rd person shorter controls like good old R&C.

Reminds me of my first playthrough of Diablo 3. My brother and friend who already played through the game just skipped every cutscene and text. NOT my way of playing. I started all over and played on my own to really ENJOY the game.
I wonder how the EA/Insomniac relationship will develop over the years. Sounds like they will be getting along quite well.
I can do a Captain Obvious statement and say it was nice having Insomniac around, but given that thinking I think they will be closing within a year.

I understand that it is fun to be social while gaming every now and then, but for me, video games are an escape from reality. Immersion is paramount. Multiplayer tends to ruin the intense psychological qualities of gaming that I enjoy.
I love how the modern game industry has forgotten that anything other than gears of war exists, because we all know that was the greatest game of all time.
Coming from a studio whose best games were single-player, this is worrying.

People need to stop bitching for co op/multi in everything. EA only does it because idiots clamor for it. If any form of co op comes to Fallout or TES, there will be vengeance. I will have it. Mark my words.
I love co op and mutli, but not every series or game is designed for it. If your game was made with 1 person in mind, why force a co op infrastructure or MP in?

We must also remember, EA games ALWAYS suck online. Not only do they always have issues out the wazoo, but they shut the servers down in a few years time. Sounds like a waste of time and money. Insomniac, go back to what made you great. You should be up there with Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch, as all 3 of the studios share many similarities, but Insomniac hasn't been able to succeed as much this generation. ToD, ACiT, R: FoM, and R3 are great, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but games where you focused too much on online, such as R2 and A4O, the results weren't so pretty, so why stick with it? And why put tower defense in R&C: FFA? :(

But Insomniac's multiplayer sucks? Resistances games were pretty mediocre all around (except 3 singleplayer), especially the multiplayer was horrible. Spyro was brillaint and singleplayer, Ratchet & Clank was singleplayer and brilliant. Their strength is fantastic singleplayer games, not multiplayer.
I wish a studio would just hurry up and release "Multiplayer: The Game". That would shut everyone up hopefully.
Well, that's another studio that'll be closing it's doors in a few years, mark my words.

This is absolutely horrible news. I do not play multiplayer games. Now, my favorite developer since the days of Spyro are cramming multiplayer (something they've never been very good at) into every game they make from now on.
Then Insomniac can go to hell, I won't be supporting them if they announce stupid decisions like that.

Mario, Final Fantasy, Fallout, Bayonetta, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Silent Hill, Spyro, MediEvil, Far Cry. all of them were so awful to play by yourself.

The mentality nowadays seems to be that if you don't have a co-op/multiplayer suite in your game, then people will trade it in faster/wait to buy it when it's cheap, etc. It's all about longevity.
Of course, that ignores that fact that if you make a truly excellent single player game, people will gladly pay for it, and play the shit out of it, too.

To me Demon/Dark Souls is one of the more brilliant examples of interacting with other players. It enhances the game without getting in the way. More games, if they must include some sort of multiplayer component, should look to what Demon/Dark Souls has accomplished rather than the force in the usual co-op or deathmatch stuff.
I really hope that some of these co-op games will use something akin to darksouls.
Anyway considering how everyone is jumping ship away from traditional SP will atleast make those studios that stick around more viable aslong as SP gamers don't jump ship with EA & co and spend their gaming dollars on a game that does fully meets their needs.

I've no problem if there are multiplayer options, but I only like single player games. If I am forced into multiplayer I probably rather wouldn't play at all.
I think I'll pass on Insomniac games now. I played BECAUSE they were great single-player experiences. Some of us like it that way? Whatever happened to those people? Dammit, I don't WANT to play EVERY game with ALL my friends ALL the bloody time!
