With as little story details as Square Enix releases on their games before launch, we'll take just about anything new. Today we find out the name of the fair-haired character you've seen in screenshots. Joining the ranks of Cloud, Squall, and Tidus is... Snow.
I know.
Famitsu says that he's the companion to the other stupidly named FFXIII character, named Lightning -- the one with the wispy pink hair you've seen in the trailers. What's with the weather names, anyway?
Snow is one of the Rush, people armed with special powers by Falsh. They're sent on missions via vague "visions" from this Falsh. The included picture (above) shows a sort of mark or crest on Snow's arm, indicating some kind of source of power.
The other included screens (in the gallery below) and details don't give us much else to go on. One shows Lightning and Snow not seeing eye to eye. Another shows a red-head in pig tails. Finally, there's a shot from what Famitsu says is a cutscene. Some Dead Space-looking dudes are carrying a coffin.
I think I'm more confused now. Hit the jump for the first thing I thought of when I read this new character's name.

Let me repeat that: Shiva, the ice goddess summon, TURNS. INTO. A. MOTORCYCLE.
I swear to God, I am going to bomb Japan again like those bumper stickers from the 80's suggest. THIS HAS TO STOP!!! What is with these guys? I mean I remember how angry and baffled I was when I found out Square was never going to release FF5 in the old SNES days, but this is actually worse. It's like totally ruining the series wasn't enough, now they have to ULTRA-RUIN it. I guess Square is aiming for the hitherto untapped demographic of Larouche supporters, 911 truthers and other people who will believe literally anything.
Character design is definitely better than FFXII. Names are kind of silly to say the least. But I kind of like silly sometimes. I just hope the game doesn't suck or one of two things will happen: I'll cry, or I will destroy the Earth!

Personally I'm hoping for an Acid Rain. He can be angsty and rebellious but in a cool hip sort of way. And his attitude can be personified in black leather adorned with belt buckles.

In Snow's defense (never utter that phrase again), most reggae in the early 90's sounded like this. He's got decent flow for a Torontian.
