Infinite Space taking to the stars March 26th photo

It may not be on our most-wanted list of 2010 DS games, but I'm still not sure how we let this get past us. Platinum Games' space-operatic RPG Infinite Space will be leaving the dock later next month.

For the uninitiated, Infinite Space is an epic sci-fi RPG built around customizing and flying a fleet of up to five ships and firing beam lasers and super-missiles at enemies. Oh, and the story apparently takes inspiration from Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End, which is a cool book.

Anyway, Colette's pretty stoked for the game, as am I, since watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes I've had a hankering for some lumbering spaceship fleet action.

Yeah I don't know where the Childhood's End inspiration is supposed to be but the game looks like a fun menu strategy thing so far.

Anything where I get to customize big ass space ships is a must.

And that concept art looks fairly homeworldy to me, so that's an extra plus.

Its actually a collaboration between Platinum Games and Nude Maker.

Had my eye on Infinite Space since early last year, they say its a very content rich RPG for something on the DS. Considering DS is getting two other content-rich RPGs next month - SMT: Strange Journey and Pokemon HG/SS - this one going with them will keep me occupied for a good long while. FFXIII can wait, I think, these are a little more worthy of attention.

There are a couple hundred people to meet and many of them can be recruited in Infinite Space. They are capable of being assigned to their specializations on each ship you build. As you progress you'll be able to build up those ships. Sounds like something you could sink hundreds of hours into if you really cared to.

Childhood's End is awesome, but... usually video game narratives don't go in the sorts of directions CE goes in :)

Also looking forward to this. Nice to see my money going to Platinum Games again after Bayonetta. Infinite Space always looked sweet.

Hey, more Legend of the Galactic Heroes fans in the house. They don't make like that awesome anime anymore.

Man, with BC2 and Infinite Space, I think I'll be done buying games til SSFIV, SC:C and Alan Wake.

Looks good to me. Although I wonder where has Colette been lately? Not seen any posts by her I don't think lately?

Does EVERYTHING come out next month? There are 4 or 5 games I'll need to buy, and then even more in April. I don't think there's going to be much of a lull in the onslaught at all, this year.

Is there a more in-depth preview anywhere? It feels like the only images I've seen are the same handful of spaceship designs. I'm quite interested, but want to know moar.

I just read Childhoods End a few weeks ago, and I'm also kind of wondering what the relation is. Apparently the game is also a big homage to "Space Battleship Yamato", which is pretty awesome. Either way this game is definitely on my "must buy" list.

March is the cruelest month. 4 gigantic rpgs (this, XIII, SMT: Imagine, and Soul Silver) in such a short span. This is probably my least prioritized of the four, but it's still a must buy, because...space rpg. Those words need to be combined more.

Ok, i ve finished it quite a time ago, and must say - this is the best title in DS for the 2009 year (yes - mean j version), and though i am a huge fin of SMTE, it is even better than almost perfect new Stranga journey.
First of all it has most epic and deep story one have ever seen in video games (compared maybe to saga/gears) and when it ads a unique feeling of nostalgia on good old sci-fi books. Add great exploration and vast universe with a tons of planets to visit and ...well...its just almost perfect. And the main hero is at last not an idiotic weepy schoolboy who wants to save everyone, it is quite a determined individual, who knows exactly what he wants. And in a way is like the other cool hero bearing the same name - Yuri from Shadow hearts.
You may not want to buy it only if you hate sci-fi in particular or simply good plots in general.
