inFamous demo is available photo

As promised (thanks, Sony) Sucker Punch Production’s inFamous demo is available for download via the PlayStation Store. This no-strings-attached version of the demo is the same one Qore subscribers and those who pre-ordered the game have been enjoying for some time now. But don’t let that stop you -- according to the games media Twitterverse, inFamous is the greatest thing since, uh, skull crushers.

The demo has been described to me as rather beefy. It features several missions -- both campaign and side -- and allows for a bit of open-world exploration. Also, lightning attacks.

After you’re done downloading (watch out, there was a system update recently) and get to playing, jot down your impressions in the comments. I’m eager to read what you guys think about it.

Yeah it's a beefy demo without a doubt. Only other times I played a demo near this much was with Killzone 2 and Ratchet and Clank Going Commando.

Anyway I think this game is officially a hit. I enjoyed the demo thoroughly and I am PUMPED for 20+ hours of original gameplay like that found in the demo.

from the demo alone I know this game will be fantastic.

I downloaded the demo earlier today, and I must say, this is a really fun demo.
It is incredibly fun gliding from building to building, and use cole's powers to either help people, or cause chaos.

"It features several missions"

Really? The pre-order demo that I have only has four, 1 campaign and 3 side missions. Either I got gypped with my demo or someone miscalculated when describing to you. But even with 4 missions, its rather beefy. Spent much time exploring, dicking around, and collecting. Took me about an hour, maybe a hour and a half to collect enough batteries to add 5 spheres.

To reiterate what most people have said so far, this is pretty beefy, since "beefy" is the only scale you can have for demoing open-world games.

That said, I find the game kind of difficult. Combat plays a lot like a 3rd-person shooter, but mobility is just short of a Spider-Man game. As a result I haven't quite mastered all the running/jumping/gliding stuff.

Also, the enemies have really good aim. Maybe that's their superpower?

Liked the demo but I think its a little too late for me to buy it at this point. Already spent my money on other stuff~ Usually games I dont buy off the bat end up getting a used purchase but hey pre-order demos are an amazing idea to get people originally uninterested in the game yes?

Awful. But then again, I don't like open-world games: they tend to be Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none. I just didn't have any fun while playing.

Looks like it's rendered at a lower than 720p resolution with no antialiasing. Jaggies abound! :( Ugh...

One of the best demo's I've played in a while. The reapers are a serious annoyance though. They're like ants. The controls were simple and easy to use. It'll take a while to master it though. It's a lot more cover oriented than I thought. The graphics are top notch. The enemy AI is one of the best I've come up against too. I can't wait till it comes out tues.

Well I loved it and really can't wait for Tuesday now!! It's amazing how powerful yet vulnerable the game makes you feel. The highlight for me was doing a meteor smash off a building, only to discover that along with the enemy I had also killed about 10 pedestrians as well haha. Really have to play it careful on Hero.

i actually quit halfway through the demo.

this is really bad.

climbing shit was fun, but everything else.... just seemed half-assed. i'm sorry, but i can't get into it.

Prototype is DAY ONE for me though.

Lightning Storm is a fantastic power-eating ability. So destructive, I love it. I had my fun with it, even though I'm still iffy about the whole morality aspect of it but I can dig it. Also, hovering is alright but I like Cole's hovering stance as opposed to Alex's flying squirrel stance in Prototype which is just silly.

I really dig how variety of stuff you can find as ways to charge up your go-go juice, as well as the different crap you can climb on. This and Prototype will occupy me for a while, I know that.

Like a few other unfortunate souls out there (including some American users, as far as I understand), I got a French version of the demo without asking for it. Made it impossible to figure out mission objectives, but I did enjoy running around electrocuting inanimate objects as well as people. As far as urban anti-social behavior goes, this sure beats ramming pedestrians with a car. Also, the graphics were impressive and the climbing was fun and more skill-based than Assassin's Tourist Sight-Seeing Creed.

This is the best demo I've layed in a long long time. It's possible the only demo that feels satisfying, but teases you enough to play more - the very same thing pirates say they download games to "trial" for.

I've never felt more like a superhero, clinging to the buildings listening to the sound of the city, a cry for help - and you're there.

Also the Thief-like cutscene comics push this somewhere into the region of BEST GAME EVAH! before you even take control!

I was impressed by how fluid it controls climbing around and holding on to ledges. Also stable framerate making it easy to aim. Nice comicbook introduction of the story. Missions and sidequest hopefully keep it fresh.

Definitely a day one purchase. The powers all work very well. The only true complaints to be levied against the game are the jaggies and pop in. I can live with that.

I was pleasantly surprised when I played it. You can really see the influence made by Sly Cooper, especially when climbing and tightrope walking. Hell, he even has a Sly face on his backpack if you look hard enough. Definitely picking this up, and the Uncharted 2 "beta" access doesn't hurt either.

Fantastic demo. I put like 2 hours into it just exploring and mucking around. You wanted some thoughts and I have some spare time so here you go.

It is more difficult than I thought it would be, which is NOT a complaint. I'm one of those crazy folk who think games are getting too easy. Nice to see one refuse to pander to its audience. I played the demo on medium and it was pretty tough, but not annoying hard, just die-every-once-in-a-while because-you-did-something-stupid hard. It keeps you on your toes and makes you think out your moves. You need to climb around and strategically take out the baddies on the buildings. You can't go all HULK SMASH in this game. It makes you use your abilities.

The climbing rocked. It took me a while to get good at it, but once you get a rhythm it is a game in itself. Much of my time in the demo was spent just trying to keep a good rhythm while running around.

I found the enemies to be pretty frightening and smart. They have REALLY GOOD AIM. I like their design. The white ones are freaky!

One thing I love is you REALLY feel like a super hero. I'm not sure if it is the controls, the introduction, or the way the crowd reacts, or the details in the design, or how you have to be careful not to harm innocents. It just all comes together really well.

The cut scenes were awesome, loved the comic style. I ddnt think Id be that much into the story, but it seems pretty interesting and began to pull me in.

Overall I am very satisfied. Day 1 purchase. I can see myself putting a lot of time into this game.

To be honest Im kinda surprised that this many folks liked it, personally I didnt like the graphics or the characters, the enemies are poorly designed and they all look alike and move alike, I didnt enjoy the gameplay and I dont like the fact that there's no blood or gore, I guess I didnt feel that his powers are "real". The game feels like a kid's game to me, too bad cause I was hoping for a fun game, I hope prototype wont let me down as well

I like it, but I really wish they'd have added some grabs or something. Or a way so you could tackle someone off rooftops of something. Or maybe even a jumping kick.

I just feel like you run at a great pace and if you could jump and kick or tackle someone it'd be great, but you can only jump then slam down to the ground for which you wouldn't need to be running at that kind of pace.

I've played the demo through a few times and I'm definitely picking this up on Tuesday. It's a blast to play, you feel awesome wielding those powers... its just great. If anyone hasn't played the demo and is on the fence about inFamous, they need to download it now.

I'm not sold. It was kinda fun, but I hated the controls, and I hated having to be in cover so much. That just doesn't work for me, playing a superhuman kinda guy and having to get behind cover so I can fire my lightning bolts.

I will pick it up at some point, I just don't know that this is a day one purchase for me. I want to see what Prototype, the two new console Overlord Games, Fight Night, and a few other June release have in store.

The game overall was very fun the lighting powers were a blast and were made more so by the simple control scheme. A nice example would be going from a melee combo into a shockwave or any chaining of your attacks. The climbing aspect of it though does take some time to get used to. It felt a little too loose and he seemed to gravitate towards your desired climbable object. To my surprise the demo was very lengthy it gave us a few missions to play around with and a taste of both the dark and the light side of his powers. The demo sold me on the game and I can't wait to get the full experience.

@harrmonica...

i liked Radical's previous game of Hulk, and seeing as Prototype will play almost identically to it, i know it won't dissapoint gameplay wise... the only question is the story, but who plays a sandbox for story anyway?

and what was the bullshit in the infamous demo with the subway? i'm on this subway that i'm making move by standing on it, but for some reason every 40 feet i have to shoot electricity at boxes... to power it up... so i have to stand on it in order to move...

not to mention i can create this electrical grenade, but god forbid i get near my own creation.... electricity hurts a man whose only power is wielding electricity... real fun...NOT
