inFamous can be conquered in roughly 25 hours photo

The other open-world action game starring a genetic freak, inFamous, will take (roughly) twenty to twenty-five hours to completely finish. As in, do everything that there is to do in the game.

Sucker Punch’s own Chris Zimmerman dropped this time nugget during a PlayStation.Blog fan Q&A session. “Well it depends on how you decide to play it; if you play just straight through as fast as you can, maybe 15 hours,” he said.

“But in addition to the 35 story missions in the game we have 100 side-missions, [and] we have a whole bunch of collectibles you can pick up. If you do that stuff, somewhere in the 20s - 25 hours, maybe.”

Bang for your buck. It’s what we all consider before a game purchase. Is 20-25 hours of action, sidequests, and collectible collecting enough for you guys? Or do you want more?

Well I don't own a PS3 so I wasn't going to pick this up anyway. I am however looking at Prototype very closely these days. I hope the replay value is more along the 30's range at least cause I know 25 hours doesn't cut it for me.

...That's pretty uh.. small amount of game time. Hell, GTA4 was about what? 30 hours? And about over 80 to complete it all? Or am I just thinking of San andreas?

100 side missions?

I wonder how much variety those 100 actually going to entail

Yes it's enough for me, 25 hours is plenty of missions for an open world game.

25 hours sounds good enough, however, we must take into account the variable 'messing around' time sanbox games have.

After all is said and done in both GTA4 and SR2, I spent double the time on general exploration and going on rampages. I tried a multitude of rampages in GTA4 from pedestrian bombing to car flipping contests to seeing what can be blown up. Heck I went on helicopter shooting hunts and shot down many a helicopter from the sky. I pored over a 100 hours into that game, most of it was from general messing about.

Same with SR, whenever I play now, it's mainly for a laugh and to see all of the whacky stuff the game world offers, throwing people (and myself) off of huge bulidings, trying to fly, doing car stunts and going on even better rampages that in GTA4 is all I do now, and still is great fun. Again, only a quarter of my total playing time was devoted to finish all of the missions and side missions, after that was done, I just have great amounts of fun on the game.

If inFamous has the same sensibilties of fun and presnts a compelling game world to fully explore and improvise in, I see myself playing for 75 hours, not 25.

I am just a naturally explorative and inquisitive gamer. So of course I wll be buying this when it comes out. :)

That's a decent amount of time guys. Action games tend to be 7-9 hours with 0 replay value. Not to mention that this game has light and dark paths, which feature different powers a la Jedi Night 2.

I don't see what all the whinging is about...

25 hours to do EVERYTHING in the game? 2 days doesn't seem a lot. Then again I play multiplayer games, so I really don't know how long an average game is supposed to be.

It would really depend on the quality and variety of those side missions, as to whether that 25-hour figure is balanced toward good or bad. Obviously this isn't really an open-world game in exactly the same way Saints Row 2 is. It's best compared to Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (as a last-gen stand-in for Prototype. Web of Shadows was heavily balanced towards combat missions (kill 12 X), which were really goddamn boring, and the collectibles more or less amounted to Crackdown agility orbs, but of even less value.

If that's how inFAMOUS' side activity amounts to, that 25-hour number is skewed up in favor of crap.

If you rush the main game, Fallout 3 can be 10 hours, Fable II can be like 5, and so on. If he's right, and 15 hours is actually "rushing" for the main quest, then that's pretty good.

As for total length in a game? Some sandbox titles don't have a whole lot to do, so they're around the 25 hour mark; and that's fine. Others, like Bethesda games, can easily run 100 hours without having "excess" fun, and just doing the side quests.

Overall, non multiplayer action games go two ways, I think. You either love the game, or the action genre in general, and you buy it; or, you're a multiplayer gamer/loathe games under 40 hours, so you "maybe" rent (see Wolverine).

I'm picking up one of the upcoming superhero sandbox games but I won't decide until the veredict is set for both.

and 25 hours sounds pretty decent, enough to keep me busy but not enough to bore me to tears.

What you says make sense but still... 25 hours doesn't soud that much.
According to my math the side missions must take around 3 ou 4 minutes to be completed and probably there aren't many collectibles.
And just like Mushman commented, i always end up playing for more time then the "official gameplay" time.

What a hell am i saying? I don even have a PS3! But i'm very interested in this game(still prefer Prototype though).

I've played the demo for this. As far as I can tell, there isn't as much "exploring" to do in this open world game as there is in GTA4/SR2. I mean, you can't get in a car. Or go on rampages (you can shock a bunch of pedestrians, but what's the point?). Just to give you guys a better idea of the game world. It's open world, but I wouldn't necessarily call the world a sandbox. It's kind of like how Skate games have a big world with a bunch of missions, but in this case there's not as much fun in going from spot to spot. Still, the core gameplay is fun so far. This superhero is pretty badass.

25 hours is the bare minimum for me to feel like I spent well my money (aside for being a good game, of course). Too many games are falling into the 7-12 hours of length, and it sucks. A lot.

Why are all you morons complaining about the 25 hour length? 95% of you are gonna play the game, get half way or something and then the ADD'll kick in and you're off playing UFC or something.

25 hours seems ok to me really, I have a job, school and craploads of other stuff to do so I only game a few hours a night if I'm lucky.

So for the gamer with no job, lazy, or crappy retail job, no responsibilities sure 25 hours is really nothing between the late night Cheetos runs and the JRPG bollocks, but for us regular folk, it's plenty to keep us busy.

Yeah, in the first Q&A they said that two playthroughs was highly recommended as the good/evil result in different abilities, scenarios, and an all around different atmosphere.

Also, estimated game length on sandbox style games (just as with RPGs) should be taken with a grain of salt. Dicking around/inability to find difficult collectibles and/or collect trophies ect.

The game plays at a pretty fast pace. I'm not sure comparisons to GTA4 are fair. The gameplay is closer to Spiderman than GTA4.

25 hours at the game's pacing is probably about right.

Yes, I have the demo. It didn't do it for me, personally. Rental/trade/used at best.

I think 25 hours is more then enough and your going to get exponentially more then that out of it if think you might be replaying it multiple times (whether or not its worth doing so is rather heavily dependent on how much you enjoy the game and how much the good/evil aspect effects the game) plus your going to be getting in on the beta/demo for Uncharted 2's multiplayer which should be fun. The cost per hours of entertainment definitely balances out. That being said I don't plan on getting the game or at least not right away. I'm sure I would like it but it doesn't appeal to me quite enough to put it ahead of some of the other games I still haven't gotten yet which are in some cases beginning to come down in price due to how long they have been available.

More than enough. If it was twice as long you'd all be complaining that it would be to long, then if it was 10 hours you'd be saying it'd be to short. This time frame seems nice for a semi-open world game. I'm looking forward to it, going bad first then maybe I'll play it again and go good.

Well honestly, I was planning on buying this anyway.
I am a gamer who has the benefit of being able to purchase multiple games a month, seeing as my parents are paying for college and I work part-time at my local GamStop. Though 25 hours is a little short for EVERYTHING, I don't mind having a relatively quick game that will entice me to go for a second run-through (playing EVIL).

Additionally, I got that GTAIV achievement for under X hours or so, and I found the game WAY To long winded. Loved it and bought Lost and Damned, but there wasn't enough variety.

Sounds perfect to me.

Add in the a quick second run through with the other evil/good path and you're at 30 hours or so. Sounds more than worth the money.

All in all, it's about a $2-per-hour game which is actually a pretty cheap way to spend you're time. And this assumes you DON'T sell the game when you're done, which would probably make it a $1-per-hour game.

When people come out and say you can beat RE5 in 8 hours you have a right to bitch. This game is twice that length so QUIT YER BITCHING!

I just played the demo. The game is amazing. And all I was doing was exploring the city. Sure, you may not be able to get in a car or shoot down a helicopter (obvious parts of the story really with the powers and military quarantining the city), but the exploration more than makes up for it. I've found myself trying to balance on rails near water just to see if I would accidentally plummet to my doom. I brought down godly lightning onto oncoming traffic for the hell of it. And I beat random pedestrians unconscious only to revive them with my healing touch just to beat them again. There were quite a few times I saw a building and went "I want to climb that" and did. 25 hours for just one 100% play through is the right amount of time. Not too much, not too little. And that amount of time doesn't include the amount of dicking around you'll be doing (which as said I did my fair share of just in the demo alone)

Wow, to even ask that question seems so strange. Why is it not asked when Tomb raider can be finished in 5 hours or Prince of persia be completed in 10 easily, why choose this game? For an open world game that's great value considering the random fun you can have also. Can you please name some games that exceed that play time? Excluding JRPG's which are 5 hours of actual interesting content and 80 hours of grind.

I would rather a tightly paced 15 hours game over a long boring wasted 40.

Almost every modern RPG I can think of could do with about 5-10 hours lopped off. I with project leads would take the time that Film Directors do: Sure you may have shot everything you need, but is it watchable? Many films have been made better by trimming a lot of material.

I completed GTAIV in 35 hours, and for the last 10 I was going "When will this F**king finish?". I enjoyed it all, but it had certainly lost a lot of its appeal in the later hours. Same for Saints Row 2.

However I think you might be ignoring the fact that you can play bad or good in inFAMOUS. So those 35 main missions may turn into 70 missions if you were to play it completely bad, or good. From what I've seen it's certainly worth seeing what both sides play like.

do either of the up coming super hero/evil villain games have multiplayer?

That will certainly sway it for me.

Multiplayer almost saved GTA4 for me. it was the best bit for sure! Cruising around with 4 of you in a car blasting fools, running them over and shit. The one with Multiplayer will get my purchase.

Fanboyishly i will probably get Infamous anyway, gotta support those PS3 exclusives.

I like the look of this inFAMOUS, and 25 hours doesn't sound bad to me, especially as with open-world games you tend to piss about alot when you can't be arsed to go to point A to collect mission brief, etc...

But seeing as how it would cost me in the region of 400 quid to buy and play this game, I think I'll happily wait for Prototype, which looks darker, and more up my street, anyway.

As for the game's length, I don't believe Uncharted was this long was it? Yet that game rocked, and playing through it multiple times was amazing (I've played through 4 times start to finish). I'm guessing this game would end up over 25 hours if you were a trophy whore, which is a great bang for the buck. I have mine preordered and I can't wait to get it. Sounds like this story is trying to rustle up trouble where none is needed.
