Industry thinks Halo: Reach will be 2010's biggest game photo

GamesIndustry.biz has recently conducted a huge survey of industry members to find out their top picks of 2010. The survey, which reached out to 99,000 members of the business, has named Halo: Reach as the biggest seller of 2010, beating out other hopefuls such as Final Fantasy XIII and even Call of Duty 7

The survey also named Alan Wake as 2010's "Dark Horse," while music games are expected to take the biggest popularity hit. The industry also believes that casual games will experience the most growth this year, followed by action/adventure games and the ever-booming MMO category.

What do you reckon? Will Reach beat the likes of Call of Duty 7, and will Alan Wake surprise us all? Hit the jump for the full results.

strange to see mass effect 2 as both a dark horse and a top seller. i would think it would get a big reception due to all the news ive been hearing bout it, but i spend too much time on these kinda sites anyway.

i'd love to see some more on heavy rain and alan wake soon. here's hoping that they come out swinging and give some acclaim to their creators so they can continue their fine work.

Call of Duty: World at War sold like hotcakes even though it was an above average game. And Halo: ODST sold a lot as well even though it wasn't as good as Halo 3. If MS doesn't interfere than maybe Halo: Reach will do better than Call of Duty 7, maybe.

Well of course it will sell a ridiculous amount of copies, it has the word "Halo" right there in the title.

Looking forward to more DS games than what I see on this list, with the exceptions of FFXIII and Red Dead Redemption.

Games expected to be the biggest sellers in 2010
All sequels, seven of which are on their third iteration or greater. Just pointing out the obvious.
I'm not so naive to think wholly new IPs to be best sellers but I still dream of the day that the title Whatever game from the developers of super popular carries the same selling power as the titles Halo:Got a new Helmet or COD:Microwave dinner Warfare.

I fucking hope music games will become less popular in 2010. I also hope that MAG will be released on PC and 360 and beat Moder Warfare or at least it won't drown in Modern Warfare's shit, because that's the direction multuplayer shooters should evolve.
But MAG is not even on the list of 'dark horses', so I hope that those analysts are shit and that's very likely, because that list is written by captain obvious.

I'd put Red Dead Redemption a helluva lot higher than that. I haven't played a decent Western game since GUN and I'd kill to try one made by pros like Rockstar.

So they think that absolutely no Nintendo game is going to be a big seller this year? Wow I guess people will just never learn. Zelda, and Mario alone will be big sellers, but they have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from 2009 on the list. So where is NSMB Wii, and Wii Fit Plus? Both of those games will continue to sell huge throughout this year. I guess Nintendo was just excluded from the list, but they were on it last year, so who knows why they're not on it this year!

@PEICanada7:

I take the exclusion of Nintendo titles that are likely to sell very well (Galaxy 2, Zelda) on the fact that neither have concrete release dates (and one of them doesn't even have a full title).

Though that really makes me suspicious of their inclusion of "COD 7". Or maybe that just makes me a little sad to think that a game we know nothing about will already be the 4th best selling game this year. Oh my.

I think Halo Reach is a safe bet to the biggest seller simply because it's Halo.

Eh its the 10th of January and Im already thinking Darksiders is up there....I love it, its a fantastic game, and shows how New IPs can succeed in a market like this one.

All you need to do is focus on your Idea, and not try to make everyone happy with features that may not suit the game. As the Darksiders creator said, they didnt put MP in the game or think about DLC because they had an Idea of the Game and just focused all their efforts on it...and it shows.

I thought ME2 would've been higher...its making Mass Effect 1 look like an Xbox 1 Game...

I think Alan Wake will be brilliant... but without multiplayer will struggle to break through to the main stream like CoD or Halo.

Although Fable II did really well... hmmm

... makes sense. There are lots of Halo fans out there and any online game is a decent investment because it can be played for months and months. It seems many were disappointed with the last Halo game, but this one should still sell well.

Bungie lost me with ODST, I fucking paid 80$ canadian ( which is equivalent to maybe 79$ american)for a 3-4 hour campaign, and a multiplayer that lasted the same time. So fuck that

They missed out, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm?? How did they miss THAT out?? Cataclysm will probably be the biggest seller this year imo. It'll sell I'm guessing 3-4 million in the first few days, 5-6 million in the first week, and then the other 6 million WoW players will HAVE to jump on ASAP cause raiding, PvP.. well everything in Northrend will be dead.

Of course though millions will also just buy it off worldofwarcraft.com so it'll be hard to track until Blizzard does a press release on how many its sold.

But yeah, Cataclysm will own everything this year in sales :)

wow fan ahead, since when do sales make a game good? and it's extremely obvius than a WoW xpack will always sell good coz there are more than 12 mill of suscribers, so no surprice there

absolutely no wii love on that list! watch that new mario galaxy 2 blast everything outta the water.

that and ff13 should blast everything.

i think people are getting sick of the yearly halo and cod's.
it seems these companies ( especially activision ) forgot what happened with the Tony Hawk and tomb raider series by not giving people enough time to want them again. people are already burnt out on guitar hero but we'll see several more this year because activision don't care about anything but more money.

I am actually excited for Halo: Reach. Sure, ODST wasn't the greatest but the original concept was that it was an expansion. Then again, I thought ODST's campaign was better than 2 or 3.

I am also wondering, why is Mass Effect 2 a dark horse title and Starcratf II in 2010? Hah, but I am stoked for Mass Effect 2 anyways.

Let me get this straight, they reach out to "99,000 members of the business" to find out something everyone already knows? Is there anyone with an Xbox that doesn't own Halo. I'm pretty sure owning Halo is Mircosoft's policy.

Some things people don't seem to understand:

1) This is a compilation of the results of a survey issued to many different industry members. The inclusion of ME2 in two different categories means these members have two different opinions about the game.

2) This is not a premature "Best of 2010" list. It's what people think will sell the best. Ghost125 in particular does not seem to grasp this.

@ Kalmah

"Dark Horse" is a term used to describe something that does well despite expectations otherwise. So what we have here is a list of games with expectations that they surpass expectations, which makes you wonder why expectations are so low in the first place. Go figure.

Reach is a shoe-in. Red Dead might surprise, and there are still a lot of wild cards like Fallout: New Vegas and Rage that might turn big numbers if they actually get released this year.
