Industry analysts weigh in on 2008's Holiday misses photo

Want to know what games coming out this holiday are already destined for less-than-stellar sales (at least in the opinions of three analysts)? Well, according to predictions made by Michael Pachter, Ed Barton and Jesse Divinch, the underperformers are looking like Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe, Need For Speed Undercover, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and Animal Crossing: City Folk, to name a few.

"But wait a minute!" you're saying. " I think (fill in the blank) is gonna be great!" Calm down, none of these guys are saying that these games suck -- only that they aren't positioned well for great performance because of their time of release or other key factors. Here's an excerpt from Pachter's predictions:

"I'd say that the worst positioned are Midnight Club: Los Angeles (coming out in front of Need for Speed Undercover), Shaun White Snowboarding (the Wii version will do well, but is constrained by Wii Fit boards; the PS3 and 360 versions are not positioned well), Tomb Raider Underworld (a great franchise, but flying under the radar this holiday), and (waits for the slams from Gamasutra readers...) Animal Crossing: City Folk.

The last is a great franchise, but the Wii audience is dominated by the mass-market audience, and Animal Crossing is somewhat more hardcore than most Nintendo titles. I think that the game will do very well, but will likely be disappointing, relative to expectations."

Well...yeah.
The holydays are filled with triple A titles this years and some not so AAA games are gonna be left out of people's stockings.

But I wouldn't be surprised if the sales for some of these games pick up around february or march.

Confirmed: Games Destructoid does not review do poorly, hypothetically

I thought people were excited about web of shadows. I liked it a lot. I should mention a friend of mine worked on it. Of course, having friends work on force unleashed didn't make me like that game... so, yeah

Animal Crossing is hardcore? Woah.......

I think he's right about all of them except AC City Folk. Nintendo will market it well and because of the DS's version and its popularity, people are already familiar with the franchise.

Serves Rare right if Banjo Kazooie sells poorly. It ain't the same thing we played a decade ago and it ain't what we want now.

I bought a 360 because of two things. Dead Rising and Banjo Kazooie 3. Obviously I didn't get what I waned out of BK3.

I don't think AC will do poorly, but I do think a significant chunk of the existing AC fan base will not buy something that is, by all accounts, a retread of the previous two games with some minor tweaks.

My 9 year old cousin loves Animal Crossing like a crackhead loves crack. It will sell. To the casual market. And it will sell a lot.

Yes, because nuts and bolts is an awful game, dvddesign. They just threw that shit together and punted it out the door.
