Indie developer completely loses the plot, goes all Time Cube on us photo

Some of you may have been following a rather unique story concerning Bob's Game. Bob Pelloni is an indie developer who made headlines around the Blogocube by developing his own Nintendo DS game, completely from scratch, learning the required skills as he went along. The last time we met Bob, Nintendo had refused to license the game and he was holding a 100-day protest, locked within his room.

Well, it would seem that solitary confinement has caused Bob to go beyond

In a new update, Bob has demanded that Nintendo take notice of his genius, claiming that his work "is a game by ONE PERSON, and it's one of the GREATEST GAMES EVER MADE -- if not THE BEST.

"I stand alone on a mountain no other has even dared to climb," continues Bob. "I have swam across the ocean only cruise ships could cross. I have walked through the desert of no return. I have stepped in the footprints of none, a path never taken. I have MADE HISTORY, and history cannot be undone. It's too late, Nintendo."

Now claiming to be "the greatest game developer that ever lived," Bob has also challenged the genius of  "Miyamoto, Itoi, Kojima, Carmack, and Wright COMBINED." Bob claims that none of those men could do what he has done. "They rely on the assistance of others- and take all the credit. They don't even deserve their titles!  I have bested them all by far."

Marketing stunt? Obviously that is what some would say. We prefer to think Bob has legitimately lost his marbles.

As Bob continues to lock himself in his "Viridian Room" and grows steadily less stable, we can only wonder how long it takes before he starts eating his own feces. We'll be there to cover that feces as when it drops!

[Thanks, Monodi]

When I learned he locked himself in that room for 50 days, I knew it would get good.

You are welcome, guys.

This Bob story could make a beautiful fable. I mean, even the names and everything are fitting for a simple explanation. This is legend.

Poor guy. If he just wanted people to play it, he could just release it as a ROM for the ds homebrew community. But then again, he probably wants money. Ah well. He loss (of sanity).

This probably killed any chance he had of getting Nintendo to publish his game. Oh well, a fetch quest game may not be their idea of a selling game anyway.

Maybe even to the other publishers that were interested even if it was in another system. This is a sad story that is better to learn on not doing thing for a title. Itoi and Miyamoto are loved not just for being geniuses, but also because they are humble about it always looking forward to make better.

I kind of dig that he hasn't worked his way up a ladder, because frankly, its a crooked ladder that likely wont' ever lead to the pure freedom he's had in creating this game solely og his own two hands. Its his game.

The down fall here is the same of most people, I think, that have great creative powers: He knows jack all about subtly in negotation and business savvy.

The lock up stunt was a good move. Its aays I've worked, and I have X amount of drive and conviction to wanna be heard.

Naming himself the King of all Cosmos: Game Design Edition, like Razor Kitten Said, probably just pushed him far enough into crazy wherein Nintendo stops "negotiating with terrorists".

somebody should mention to him a little thing called XNA and XBLA. hell if did this all by himself as he claims, he should have no trouble learning XNA, converting the game, and cashing in.
...come to think of it, he could just release it for the iPhone.

ah, why should i help him with suggestions? i've got my own problems to deal with.

This level of delusion reminds me of Ed Wood Jr.; a man so utterly convinced of his own greatness and presumed ability despite all evidence to the contrary.

Oh, this is Grade A kookery. Bob's name should be listed alongside all other wackos of the net for all time.

Fuck... nintendo doesn't want it, he could do a self release. I'm sure it would sell. Change the color of the ds cartridge, and add a little curve, and you got an unlicensed ds game like tengen and color dreams used to do on the NES.

Or, maybe he could retool it, and release it on xna. or live... I mean, look at braid. I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's been contacted by other people already.

His game will be released... maybe not an official nintendo release, but, other companies make games.

Can you still get away with unofficial cart releases? Not from a legal standpoint: he's have to have cracked the proprietery whatswhosit, right . . .

But if he's developing homebrew ds, maybe he already has . . . hmm . . .

I've said it before, this guy is a dumbass retard. He's cocky. If he was smart, he would find a different publisher. Why just nintendo? It's called being a douchebag. In no time at all I'm sure we'll find out its all just a prank. Or something designed like lonely girl.

That would certainly be the most reasonable move.
Espacially as Reggie is the only hostage that is also able to nourish it's captor.
He even could mail meaty slices of him to NOA to prove he's serious. ^^

i dunno, man. the way this guy is raising a fuss sort of speaks to the nature or the quality of his work. I don't like the way he uses the word 'homebrew,' all condescendingly, as if working on something for that long immediately makes you a genius. Your game IS homebrew, dude, you made it at home.

Someone really needs to tell Bob how video games began. Multi-corporate companies didn't just pop up one day with entire development teams.

Also, I really wish Jonathan Blow would turn up on his doorstep, kick down the door, slap him in the face and then leave again without uttering a word. And then reverse time and do it again.

Still I would like him to go on I admire someone that takes a stand besides he did do all that work it sucks if he had to do it for nothing...

We need to get some petition going for this man then submit it to nintendo for the sole purpose of seeing if it is the greatest game ever....

Wow. By a show of hands here, who thinks Nintendo should step up and say something? Bob makes it sound like the Big N is picking on him, but I don't think so. I don't think they would refuse to sell him the Nitro SDK without a valid reason. 100 days of isolation with stress like this hanging over your head is bound to drive this guy insane, and who knows what he's gonna do if that happens?

@CornJuliox

Well, I raise my hand. I did my part, IMO, by sending a message to Nintendo that I wanted to play Bob's game.

I just don't think Nintendo listens to anyone is all. Whether this 100-day protest is non-eventful, or not, I think all it will do is probably make Bob strongly dislike Nintendo, and make him port his game over to .. (Game Over.. haha) .. to a more 'loving & caring' kind of platform.

...which is kinda something he should have done already, in a way.

What a cocky guys.
Did Bob go thru the usual submitting procedures?
Then this wouldn't be an issue. Either Nintendo accepts it or no. Nintendo doesn't accept, port to something else. It should be a pretty trivial amount of work compared to what he already put in.

I doubt his game is even half as good as he claims it to be, seeing as it seems to be a game designed to be played by a single person (himself). Should it be even half as good, though, he could release this for free; it's something that he can show. A publisher will be willing to fund his next project if it's awesome. Instead, he just burned all possible bridges for that to happen. Way to go, sperger.

Two things: first, his game looks like it sucks. No offense. Second, someone else HAS done this. The guy who made Cave Story made it all by himself, and that stands up against many commercial games today. So this guy spent an unreasonable amount of time making a game. That's his own fault!
