If you're curious as to what's happening with Lucasart's "next-gen" Indiana Jones console titles, here's your answer: it's now called Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings, and it's coming to Wii, PlayStation 2 PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo DS.

A trailer for the title appeared on YouTube yesterday, and while that's probably not the best way to announce a game, it's been making the round quite nicely. Staff of Kings is scheduled for a Spring 2009 on the three console's mentioned at the end of the trailer. If Indy and company are still coming to PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 -- and word on the street is that won't be happening -- this is certainly not that game.

The trailer is definitely exciting, and the idea of using the Wii Remote as Indy's whip is probably pant-soiling for fans. Unfortunately, what we're seeing doesn't appear to be any gameplay, so I'll refrain from making any final judgments until Lucasarts shows off the real goods.

Indy fans, is Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings what you were waiting for?

You should change the title of the article:
“Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings for Wii, PS3, DS announced by YouTube video”

At least, if you want to have this line make sense:
“[..] and it's coming to Wii, PlayStation 2, and Nintendo DS.”

Never bought an Idny game, but anything would be better after that joke of a movie from last year.

@Corak:

As long as the "Staff of Kings" wasn't designed by an alien race, I think we'll be OK. Or maybe there were be werevolves in this game.

Nice, this looks pretty cool. Finally the Wii is getting some (good) lucas arts love.

I think this game is more "Indiana Jones" than the Crystal Scull movie... Pity I don't have a Wii.

This game is coming to the PSP, not the PS2.

There are nazis in it to beat up/run from. Already a bazillion times better than aliens and Shea LaBeouououf!

Although, the inclusion of things from older movies, esp Temple of Doom (Lao Che, rushing water), and "golden thing in shaft of light that makes walls fall down" sheds a little light on some possible lack of creativity.

I mean, I love Indiana Jones, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for this.

The whole "it'd be great to be able to do this with the Wii Remote" thing has sort of worn off for me. I've had enough of the waggling to last me a long time. It's always the same motion, isn't it?

That said, if the game is solid then I'll certainly be in on it.

"Indy, I love you!" - Short Round

Sounds like a cash in. Just hitting the big install base platforms.

I'm withholding judgment until I see some gameplay, not a pre-rendered cutscene sequence.

Is he gonna have to go through the Maggot Lair to get aforementioned Staff of Kings? *+20 reference points*

What a bunch of BS. If they can't even show us what the game's graphics look like, combined with the fact that they're only releasing it on the shovelware systems, tells me that this game will not be worth my time. I'll just go back and play Emperor's Tomb on my PS2, Infernal Machine on my N64, or Fate of Atlantis using ScummVM on my PC.

@Nick

I hope so man, I hope so. I had big expectations for the movie based on the previous ones. But after the whole "refigerator" thing from the opening sequence I'm skeptical. I remember hearing rumors about Indy before it was released about the possibility of the "spear of destiny" being the object he was after, which would have been better IMO. But as it is, we're stuck with Lucas' aliens, I didn't even bother to buy the movie on dvd.

Of all the video game/movie/comic book characters I love, Indiana Jones sit comfortably at the top(followed quickly by Batman, John McClane, and Wolverine). He is the ultimate adventure hero, and the original trilogy is my favorite trilogy ever. The new film was...ok at best. I'm kinda disappointed that this is going to the Wii instead of a REAL next-gen system, but a real Indy game(not some LEGO garbage) is still awesome to have.

This should be re-named to "Indiana Jones: Everybody Tries To Kill Indiana Jones".

Looks great, though. Might pick it up for DS.

"Sounds like a cash in. Just hitting the big install base platforms."

No, you don't say! A company is actually try to make money in these tough economic times? Who would of ever thought that would happen? Well you better get use to it, because its going to be this way looking forward now. The Wii's install base is over 46 million and when you combine it with the low development cost that goes along with developing for the system, its a win/win situation for most 3rd Party developers. Couple that with the fact that its so easy to then port the Wii game down to the PSP, or PS2 and it makes even more sense.

I think its time for the so called "hardcore" gamers to start jumping back on the Wii60, or PSWii bandwagon again. Because the Wii is starting to get a lot of good hardcore games, that you just can't get on the other system. I own a 360 now and I'm still planning on getting a Wii soon. Just for games like HOTD: OverKill, MadWorld and the Conduit. Plus now this new Indiana Jones game looks awesome as well, but I just hope it turns out as good as the trailer portrays it to be.

How long has this game been in development? I thought this was already out?

I just hope Lucas had nothing to do with it.

WiiWhip ftw.
