Yes, really: There's a new Razor scooter game coming

Remember the whole Razor scooter fad? Like, from back in 1999? And when there were even games about it back on the PlayStation 1? Well here I am in 2014 writing about the development of a new Razor scooter game in the works f...

MLB: The Show: Quick Count, Player Lock make games faster

If you want to be able to breeze through games more quickly, MLB 14: The Show has two new options. Quick Count starts off every at bat in an advanced count (3-0, 1-2, etc.), partly based on the pitcher/batter matchup. Not a ...

Review: Inazuma Eleven photo
Review: Inazuma Eleven
by Wesley Ruscher

When I was a young kid, I loved nothing more than playing classic sport video games like Bases Loaded, Blades of Steel, Double Dribble, Tecmo Bowl, and Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!. While I enjoyed the likes of Super Mario Bros. and Zelda, hitting a game winning homerun was inherently more rewarding than sticking a silver arrow in Gannon's forehead ever was.

As I pushed through my junior high school years though, my tastes in games began to change. It was in these years that I was introduced to my deepest of video game loves: the Japanese RPG. Chrono Trigger and Lunar: The Silver Star opened my eyes to a much deeper world; a world where story was just as important as gameplay, and more importantly, could actually have meaning.

Nowadays, I find myself satisfied having quick flings with any action game that I can finish in a weekend. I still love RPGs and sports games, but the commitment to fully enjoy them is more than I can usually spare. If only there was a way I could enjoy both genres simultaneously; a way to go back to the days where time was in abundance.

Inazuma Eleven is the time machine I’ve been looking for.

MLB 14 The Show gets a big visual boost from PS4 power photo
MLB 14 The Show gets a big visual boost from PS4 power
by Dale North

We had a chance to take a peek at the PS4 version of MLB 14 The Show this past week at a preview event, and it was clear from the get go that the game benefits greatly from the power that the PS4 provides. Now, it's not like the PS3 version isn't a great looking game, but a quick side-by-side comparison showed that the PS4 version will be the one to get for MLB fans.

If you can wait about a month, that is. The PS3 and Vita versions step to the mound in April, and the PS4 will follow in May.

Breaking Madden's Super Bowl is better than this Sunday's

We approach another manicured, partially tax-exempt-NFL, $9B/year industry football game this Super Bowl Sunday. We'll be lucky to get a sign of life like Richard Sherman's postgame interview two weeks ago. No, it will be a ...

Madden 25 predicts a Broncos Super Bowl win

The Super Bowl is this weekend, fittingly attended by teams from both states wherein pot is legal, though housed in New Jersey, where, at the moment, snow does not seem imminent despite recent cold. As Madden 25 tells it, th...

Thief, Middle-earth, Dumbledore in TES Online & Jazzpunk photo
Thief, Middle-earth, Dumbledore in TES Online & Jazzpunk
by Jordan Devore

Here's Max to cap off the week of videogame news. He claims his laptop battery is almost out of juice but I think he just wanted to get the weekend started early. I'd have done the same thing.

The new Thief and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, two games that have experienced their fair share of criticism from fans of those properties, got the preview treatment. We also saw trailers for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Elder Scrolls Online's packed voice cast, and Jazzpunk. That last one will rank among the year's best game trailers, mark my words. Whoa.

More than anything, I'm pleased to hear that Max agrees with me about the stupidity of the name "The Golf Club." Take that, Steven! And bring your puns with you.

Very Quick Tips: OlliOlli photo
Very Quick Tips: OlliOlli
by Chris Carter

OlliOlli is a very, very interesting game. It explains exactly what you have to do outright at the start, and even then, I had trouble. That's because I basically had to re-learn everything I knew about skateboarding games.

Without grasping certain concepts, OlliOlli can be pretty brutal, so here's a bit of help.

Review: OlliOlli photo
Review: OlliOlli

I was always a fan of skateboarding games. From Skate or Die to the Tony Hawk series, and most everything in between, I've played and enjoyed my fair share, some more than others. And while the heyday has passed, I still occasionally break out the old titles just to see if I can still rack up the high scores and complete sick lines in a single run.

If you're like me, OlliOlli is just the game you've been waiting for.
