The truth behind Tetris, as explained on a nifty t-shirt

It's officially reached that period in time when the day crew has run out of things to talk about. You know, the point where we find quirky, questionable-to-some stories before Conrad shows up to save the day. Yep, it's also ...

Crossfire looks like Space Invaders and Geometry Wars

I'm not home at the moment, rather blogging from the road. Normally, this would not matter, as a netbook is really all I need to do this job in short spurts. Then I see a trailer like the one above and suddenly I feel the im...

Monday Mind Teasers: Starmageddon

After last week's Blosics 2 physics box bonanza I was in the mood for a dark and deep puzzle adventure game this week, but Gateway ended up being way too short, and its sequel is barely more than a buggy remake. So this ...

Today's Shirt Woot will make your chest explode

Space Invaders are mean little bastards, but at least they're predictable. That is until Aliens start popping out of their chest. Then you're screwed. Today's Shirt.Woot combines one our favorite retro games, Space Invaders, ...

Captain Forever released, you'll be better at it than me

I previously talked about Captain Forever during its pre-launch phase, when you had to pay $20 to access it. The game is now available for free, here. And I'm still horrendous at it. Captain Forever is what you might get if y...

Review: Space Invaders Extreme 2 photo
Review: Space Invaders Extreme 2
by Jim Sterling

Space Invaders Extreme is regarded by many as among the greatest DS games of all time, and an essential component of any portable gaming repertoire. It was undoubtedly a brilliant game, and so a followup was assured.

That followup is here, with brand new features, new gameplay additions and, most importantly, a whole new range of kick-ass music. New doesn't always mean good, however, so the question is this: Does Space Invaders Extreme 2 manage to live up to the prestige of the original, or is this invasion an unwelcome one?

Read on as we review Space Invaders Extreme 2.

Americana and Space Invaders collide

At first glance these Photoshopped images from Life Magazine are just kind of cool. Combining Space Invaders with American hunters looks pretty neat, but upon a moments reflection there's something about them that gives them ...

Space Invaders Extreme 2 screens, PAL release date

Taito and Square-Enix have just announced that Space Invaders Extreme 2, the sequel to what was easily one of my favorite DS games of last year, will be arriving in PAL region territories on October 2nd. The game is slated fo...

Review: Space Invaders: Infinity Gene photo
Review: Space Invaders: Infinity Gene
by Topher Cantler

You may have noticed that I've been anticipating Taito's Space Invaders: Infinity Gene pretty heavily since it was first announced for the iPhone. Originally released in Japan on mobile phones that aren't sold anywhere else, I thought this latest installment of one of my favorite classic franchises was one I might never get to play. Thankfully, it's available now in the US and I've finally gotten my hands on it.

Nick Chester was kind enough to hand over his iPod Touch for a while to make that possible, and while I've always been somewhat skeptical about these devices as a real gaming platform, all it would take is one great title to change my mind. Was this it? Hit the jump and find out in my full review.

Space Invaders: Infinity Gene coming to iPhone

Being the massive Space Invaders fan that I am, I've had an ear open for any word regarding a little-known addition to the franchise, called Space Invaders: Infinity Gene. Originally a Japan-only release for mobile phones, it...

Space Invaders Extreme getting DLC, looks as rad as ever

Space Invaders Extreme on PlayStation Portable is cool. On Xbox LIVE Arcade, it's somehow even cooler, at least in my mind. Every time I shoot down a row of blue invaders and obtain the laser power-up, I experience the greate...

Twitter Friday: Win a copy of Space Invaders Extreme! photo
Twitter Friday: Win a copy of Space Invaders Extreme!
by Colette Bennett

Ah, Twitter Friday, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways.... this week, we have two copies of Space Invaders Extreme for the Xbox 360 to give to you fine people for absolutely free. To win one, what you're going to want to do is add Dtoid as a friend on Twitter and watch for the announcement we are about to give a code away today. When we announce we have one to give, be the first to reply and say "I want it!" and we'll send you a direct message with your code. Easy as that!

Even as we give these away, I'm buzzing around the office creating little swag piles for the following weeks. Since I'm also heading to E3 late next week, I ought to come home with a bunch of new stuff too. Stay tuned in the coming weeks to win it all. By the way, my favorite thing about doing Twitter Fridays is finding the header images. I have no idea what's going on up there, but it has to be awesome.

Space Invaders Extreme winners: you people are amazing photo
Space Invaders Extreme winners: you people are amazing
by Colette Bennett

I don't know why I spend all this time trying to plan different types of contests for you guys to win all this free swag I'm sitting on. All photo contests should be renamed Make The Dtoid Staff Laugh Uncontrollably, because it's always the funny pictures that win. Also, I selfishly like to see pictures of you guys, since the time you spend on Destructoid makes my job possible. Have I mentioned you guys rock?

For the Space Invaders Extreme contest, Furnimus pretty much blew us away by not only showing off his score but by making a grill out of Dtoid heads for his teeth (I called Niero over to see it and he stared for sixty seconds straight before cracking up laughing and yelling "AMAZING!"). We also couldn't get enough of HammerShark and Rio McCarthy's entries, so you three are our winners (check out the pics each winner submitted in the gallery). Congratulations!

Believe it or not, I'm not out of Space Invaders Extreme codes yet, so if you still want to win one, tune in for Twitter Friday and I'll give a few more away there. Thanks for reading!
