Review: Putty Squad photo
Review: Putty Squad
by Chris Carter

Of all of the games to get a PS4 remake, you'd probably never put Putty Squad, an SNES game from 1994, at the top of the list. But here we are in 2014 with a full-on re-imagining, with more or less the same platforming mechanics that still work nearly 20 years later.

The only problem is, System 3 Software has opted to charge $29.99 for a decidedly dated game -- which is a bit of a problem.

This Bound By Flame combat overview is pretty damn informative

I'm not completely sold on Bound By Flame yet, but this video is doing a pretty decent job of showing off the variety of locales, enemies, and combat situations the game has to offer. The basic gimmick is that you'...

Divekick Addition Edition+ will keep growing if you keep playing photo
Divekick Addition Edition+ will keep growing if you keep playing
by Jonathan Holmes

We've got about 30 videos from PAX East to show you soon, many of which (Mewgenics, Rain World, Shovel Knight, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Interstellar Selfie Station, Kero Blaster, La-Mulana 2) are already up on the Dtoid YouTube page, with so much more to come. Argh! So many games!

One of the more salacious interviews we scored was with Adam "Keits" Heart, creator of Divekick. He told us all about how Johnny Gat from Saints Row ended up in the upcoming release of Divekick Addition Edition+ and how he fights. Johnny's jump and divekick offer a balance of both offensive and defensive attributes that are rivaled only by Dive and Kick themselves. It's only when he starts throwing out specials that things get really wild. His black hole move is extremely versatile, and allows for a myriad of possible effects on a fight. It changes the way gravity works for both characters, creating a suction point that might help or hurt either fighter. His dubstep gun and car-hit-you attacks are a little more straightforward, but even they have more to them than you might have guessed.

The biggest shocker was that Adam has pledged to keep adding new characters to the game for no additional cost to the player as long as people keep playing Divekick. While Adam's got plenty of work in front of him on designing new content for Killer Instinct, he's not going to let his first game go by the wayside as long as there is an audience there that wants to keep the game alive.

Who would you want to see join the cast of Divekick Addition Edition+? From what I hear, the gang at Yacht Club Games would love to see Shovel Knight join the cast. Hmmmmm...

Review: MLB 14 The Show photo
Review: MLB 14 The Show
by Steven Hansen

I was ready for last year’s The Show to be its PS3 swansong, I was feeling it. It’s not that it wasn’t good. It was as good as it ever was. But there were signs of age. The same old horrifying fan models in the stands with crooked limbs and dead faces. The same bone dry commentators. It felt like the right time for The Show to be transitioning to PS4.

But this is sports, or at least sports games. When is the last time someone went out while they were ahead in sports? But hey, if the Red Sox can give David Ortiz -- a designated hitter in 2014; an endangered species – a $16 million contract extension for what he’s meant to Boston over the last 12 years, I can give The Show on PS3 another ride for being the only good baseball series. Especially since the PS4 versions isn’t even out yet.

I mean, I owe the Giants’ first World Series to a platoon of antiquated weirdo journeymen and a weirder, sappier story than Space Cowboys. This isn’t just “another year, another Show,” either. This is a franchise in clear transition to the next generation, which has benefited the current generation.

Yep, The Evil Within is going to be one super creepy game alright photo
Yep, The Evil Within is going to be one super creepy game alright
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Oh The Evil Within, how I can't wait for you to scare the every living daylights out of me. Shinji Mikami's past games were my first tastes of the survival horror genre, and I'm quite looking forward to see what he does with his latest title.

The newest gameplay trailer here is full of monsters, scares, and all sorts of spooky things. Including a dude that has a safe for a head. Also can we talk about how great the promotional art for this game is? The face with barbwire is creepy enough, but then you notice the letter T is heading downward to pierce the eye. So good.

The Evil Within will be out on August 26 in North America, August 28 in Australia, and August 29 in Europe for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
