In case you haven't heard, Disney is producing a movie called Big Hero 6 which is based on the Marvel comic series of the same name. It features a young boy named Hiro, who fights crime with his personal robot Baymax. Th...

Take to the skies with the latest GTA Online update

It's been quite some time since a major GTA Online update but Rockstar has broken its silence with the announcement of not heists. Sorry.  Instead it's The San Andreas Flight School update. Expect new air and land vehic...

There's plenty of death in this hour-long The Evil Within video

Based on this hour-long play session of The Evil Within, I'm not expecting to be particularly scared by the game, but I am expecting to die quite a few times. Given its limited checkpoints, the fear of failure and having to ...

This Destiny trailer makes me want to get my ass to Mars

In Destiny, the tops of long-lost skyscrapers poke through the surface of Mars which means, presumably, we'll have to work our way down through them to reach whatever lurks below. I'm not expecting to find anything good down...

Here are Destructoid's top ten games from gamescom photo
Here are Destructoid's top ten games from gamescom
by Brett Makedonski

Gamescom is the largest videogame trade show in the world. Sound like a big deal? It absolutely is. Hundreds of thousands of people cram together in a convention center that's massive, but doesn't feel even close to huge enough. Need a frame of reference? This is the crowd in the main hall on Thursday -- what's supposedly the least busy of the three days it's open to the public.

Reciprocating the scale of the event is the size of the games that publishers have on display. That was the theme at gamescom 2014: Big. All the biggest titles are here, and given how close we are to the holiday launch season, they're looking the most polished that we've seen them yet.

In no particular order, these were Destructoid's top ten games of gamescom 2014, as explained by Dale North and myself.

The guy responsible for Xbox 360 banner ads says he's sorry

When I think of the dashboard on Xbox platforms, I think "ads, everywhere" -- but it wasn't always this way. In a blog post on Gamasutra, software developer Allen Murray writes about how he was "one of the people -- if not TH...

EA spent tons of money on this 'kooky' 'viral' Madden trailer

I bet the people involved had a lot of fun shooting this offbeat Madden 15 commercial. It's also an obviously expensive production (beyond the celebrity costs) meant to be "weird" and, hopefully, shared (viral) over the Net....

Far Cry 4's take on Shangri-La sure is stunning

As someone who tended to stick with the bow as the weapon of choice in Far Cry 3 -- and especially in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon -- I like the look of the mythical Shangri-La in Far Cry 4. In these levels, you'll fight against ...

The Walking Dead Pinball has a release date and choice-driven gameplay

The Walking Dead pinball table for Zen Pinball was announced back in June, but now we've got a concrete release date: August 26. Zen Studios and Telltale Games have collaborated closely to incorporate the choice-driven style ...

That 'mysterious' Dragon Ball Xenoverse character is you

I should have known this all along, but I was holding out hope that it would actually be a new character. That "mysterious character" in Dragon Ball Xenoverse is a custom creation. So, in essence, it's "you." You'll be able t...

Ubisoft reminds us that The Crew isn't coming to the PS3 or Wii U, but is coming to Xbox 360

The Wii U still isn't in a good spot with third parties. There's a running gag in the industry that something is coming to "every console ever...except!" and everyone chimes in "the Wii U." It's a shame, because it's currentl...

What's Up: Life is Strange, eons of exploration in No Man's Sky, and the many skills of Claptrap photo
What's Up: Life is Strange, eons of exploration in No Man's Sky, and the many skills of Claptrap
by Bill Zoeker

I've been buried in gamescom news this week, but I've surfaced to relay the stories I'm most excited about to you. Life is Strange is an unusual adventure game from the creators of Remember Me. No Man's Sky allegedly would take actual millennium to explore. And we finally see what Claptrap has up his sleeve in Borderlands The Pre-Sequel. Turns out, it's a whole bag of tricks.

Garden Warfare's Suburbination update adds another mode and character photo
Garden Warfare's Suburbination update adds another mode and character
by Jordan Devore

This week's free new update for Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare adds Suburbination mode, a capture-and-defend game type in the same vein as Battlefield's Conquest and Call of Duty's Domination. Gardens & Graveyards is still where it's at, but this is a decent distraction.

The DLC also includes the Plasma Peashooter, who is playable immediately without the need to spend in-game coins; the Crash Course map; more stuff for Garden Ops including the vampiric Baron Von Bats boss and the Treasure Yeti; and a bunch of "bling" customization items.

Garden Warfare has become my go-to "unwinding" game and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Finding an annoying hiding place as the zombie soldier and picking off plants is way too satisfying to stop. You're in for a treat next week, PlayStation gamers.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 declares 'the pitch is ours' in November

I'll be honest, I haven't played a Pro Evolution Soccer game since the PlayStation 2 days but after the series lagged behind EA's FIFA juggernaut for the last few years, I'm keen to try the series again on a current-gen platf...

Battlefield Hardline's single-player campaign reminds me of Far Cry 3

Microsoft's gamescom press conference wasn't as bad as I expected photo
Microsoft's gamescom press conference wasn't as bad as I expected
by Bill Zoeker

Microsoft's press conferences often leave me with cranial damage from head-to-desk impact, but their gamescom 2014 presser felt pretty okay to me. I'm excited to see Microsoft making an attempt to partner with more indies. After their poor policies left them with a bad name among the independent development community, it seemed like the PlayStation 4 had substantially more launch content than its rival in the form of indie ports.

In retrospect, with it becoming clear that Rise of the Tomb Raider is not as exclusive as they made it out to be, I'm quite miffed. During the conference, any games that were only timed exclusives, had clear visual and spoken indication of the stipulation. We've been getting more clarification that Tomb Raider is maybe just a prolonged timed exclusive, but the language used in the presentation was pretty obviously meant to make us think Rise of the Tomb Raider would only be on Xbox. That's messed up.
