New Army of Two trailer gives you the finger

So, I haven't really been super interested in Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel. That is until this new trailer that focuses a lot more on the story. I think part of the reason is that the story presented here looks like it'll...

Game Debate to the Death! Favorite Dead Space game?

Last week's Assassin Creed debate turned into a rogue race between the first two games in the series, with Assassin's Creed II coming out on top by a few votes . . . and jumping to its close demise in a pile of hay below. Bro...

All the horrific ways you can die in Dead Space 3

One of the things you can always expect from a Dead Space game is that Isaac Clarke will get torn to bits in so many wonderful ways. You can also expect someone on YouTube to take the time to great a big old montage full of ...

'Dude-bro' takes a back seat in The Devil's Cartel

"We really pimped out the whole gun customization this time around."

That's what Greg Rizzer, producer of Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel first told me as I sat down to get hands-on time with Visceral Games' latest entry in the series.

Yes, Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel continues the series' tradition and includes a legion of gun attachments and customization options. Everything from your weapon's stock, barrel, scope, magazine size and color are customizable, with more options included than ever before for the series. And yes, even the shield attachment returns, though such an attachment will have varying effects on your character's movement and turning speed.

The series' main characters, however, Elliott Salem and Tyson Rios, are not returning to The Devil's Cartel -- in playable form, anyway -- and are instead replaced by Alpha and Bravo. That's because the latest installment is a reboot of the series, and given the nature of the game's plot, this omission was for the better.

Get Dead Space 3 for $39.99 on Amazon, and Groupon

I just beat Dead Space 3's single-player mode this past week and overall enjoyed it. I need to do some co-op still, which I hear is a better way to play the game. While it was overall a fun experience, I'm not so sure I would...

EA: Dead Space 3 microtransaction workaround not a glitch

Electronic Arts claims that the infinite items exploit in Dead Space 3 is "not a glitch" and that the publisher has "no plans to issue a patch to change this aspect of the game." Responding to a Forbes inquiry, an EA represen...

Review: Dead Space 3 photo
Review: Dead Space 3
by Jim Sterling

The months leading to Dead Space 3's launch have been trying for fans of the series. From early rumors that it would be a first-person shooter to the eventual reveal of online co-op, Kinect support, cover-based shooting segments, and highly controversial microtransactions, Dead Space 3's run of worrying news has been enough to test the loyalties and patience of any follower.

Visceral Games, either by its own choice or through the mandate of Electronic Arts, has made many alterations to this third major installment in the series, and not one of them has been made without protest from would-be customers.

The bad news is Visceral's new "improvements" do nothing but get in the way of everything fans loved about the series. The good news is that, despite such intrusions, Dead Space 3 still retains the flavor and quality we've come to expect. If anything, this game proves just how fine the core experience is, and that it can survive things capable of murdering a lesser series.

The best gun ever makes a return in Dead Space 3

Yup, Visceral brought back the foam finger gun for Dead Space 3. Kind of was hoping for something different this time, but it's still a pretty badass weapon. Like before, it's pretty much a one-hit kill weapon, and Isaac wil...

Top ten unforgettable deaths in Dead Space photo
Top ten unforgettable deaths in Dead Space
by Allistair Pinsof

One of the elements of classic horror is that when the horrible thing you are dreading finally happens, it happens in a way far more gruesome than you expect. Visceral Games got this part right so many times in its Dead Space series that I wonder if I've become desensitized to alien dismemberment at this point. Even if I have, I am still disturbed by watching series protagonist Isaac Clarke meet his end, time and time again.

The list of memorable player deaths in Dead Space and its sequels are sickening. So, let's revel in it and count down the best of the bunch.

These were the best moments in Dead Space 2 photo
These were the best moments in Dead Space 2
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

2011 was a pretty great year for gaming. Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking: everyone always says that every year. Sure, that might be true, but really, 2011 was a great year for gaming! Hell, just look at our Game of the Year nominees in 2011: Batman: Arkham City, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Portal 2, and Dead Space 2.

All great games, but my personal number one for that year was Dead Space 2. The original Dead Space was great, but then Visceral Games turned the dial up to 11 with the sequel, leaving an impression on me that was buried deeper than the nightmares left in Isaac Clarke's brain.

I've been long overdue for a replay of Dead Space 2, so on the eve of Dead Space 3's release, I felt like a full on replay was needed to remember what made the game so great.
