Darksiders II gets its first full gameplay trailer

After ten billion years of pre-rendered videos and developer diaries, Darksiders II gets its first all-gameplay trailer featuring nothing but footage from the software itself. It only took until less than a month before laun...

Vigil discusses the near-limitless loot of Darksiders II

I'm a sucker for loot. Who doesn't like loot? Bad people don't like loot. The addition of boundless gear in Darksiders II is one of the aspects I'm most excited about, and I love that Vigil's committed to putting a lot more ...

E3: Jimpressions of Darksiders II

After being turned away from the booth of a publisher that shall remain unnamed, I bumped into a cadre of developers from Vigil Studios who were more than happy to shelter me for an hour. After making my way to THQ's super secret fortress in the offices of the convention center, I finally sat down and played me some Darksiders II

As readers will know, I am a big fan of the last game, so I am pleased to report the core of the game remains intact. Once again, combat feels meaty as muscular entities slug it out with ridiculously huge weapons. As Death scales surfaces, runs on walls, and leaps from pillars, I can note that the fast-paced environmental exploration is just as conveniently gratifying as ever. The fundamentals are all in place, and unchanged.

The added depth that comes from the enhanced roleplaying elements, however, really adds a new level. Now armed with a full-on loot system, Darksiders II isn't shy about showering players with new greaves, gloves, and immense secondary weapons. A box of stat changes for each bit of new gear appears as Death stands near it, and you can pick it up or equip it at the touch of the button. The new equipment will also appear on Death's body as soon as it's worn, which is always an important flourish. The convenience of the system is great -- the loot hoarding of a dungeon-crawler, without the need to delve into menus and fiddle with statistics. A dungeon crawler for the gamer on the go.

Visually, the game is looking a little rough around the edges, with some screen tearing and jagged edges. Hopefully that's the drawback of an early build, because the art direction is as solid as ever and deserves to be presented well. In any case, I got a great first Jimpression from the game and can't wait for more!

War and Death battle it out in Darksiders II photo
War and Death battle it out in Darksiders II
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Whoa hold the phone! War and Death fighting each other?! That would be a cool plot twist, but it's not as it seems. The War you see there is actually someone named Crowfather, disguised as War, and you come across him right at the beginning of Darksiders II.

THQ gave us another hands-on opportunity to play the game, right from the start up until this first boss fight of sorts. The level is pretty straight forward and simple, as it mostly serves as a tutorial guide.

Once you get to Crowfather, you find out he knows the secret behind the conspiracy that accuses Death's brother for bringing about the apocalypse sooner than planned. Crowfather won't tell Death the truth, and instead engages him in battle disguised as his brother War. Crowfather doesn't stand a chance and is quickly killed off.

There's not really much else to say from what we were shown, especially as our preview back in March has a ton of information based on a section we got to play further into Darksiders II. Check that out for a fully detailed preview, otherwise enjoy these new screenshots.

Death strikes again in new Darksiders II trailer

A while ago, THQ released a Darksiders II trailer in which Death jumps around and hits stuff. Here's part two, with Death jumping around even more and hitting even more stuff. He also turns into the Grim Reaper, which jumps around and hits stuff. Cool.  I'm pumped enough for the game and can't wait to get my salty digits on it. Looking forward to it indeedy-do!

Preview: Darksiders II is inspired by the best there is photo
Preview: Darksiders II is inspired by the best there is
by Ryan Perez

Though I never brought myself to complete the first Darksiders, I did enjoy it for the length that I played. It was nothing phenomenal in its own right, but it was still a fun experience, due to retaining enough good inspiration from other venerated titles. The sequel, Darksiders II, is not much different, in the sense that it borrows directly from other franchises that have set several standards within DSII's respective genres.

If you dig progressing through unwelcoming dungeons, slashing furiously at imaginative beasts, and collecting mounds of loot in the process, then Darksiders II might be for you. Imagine The Legend of Zelda and God of War, minus the fairies and tits.

Interview: Darksiders II with Vigil Games' Dave Adams

Earlier this week, Hamza and I went to see Darksiders II. Because I have nicer hair than Hamza, I got to do a video interview with Dave Adams, the general manager of Vigil Games. He was nice enough to answer some of my dumb questions, and the folks at THQ emailed over some new gameplay footage. Go watch! #darksiders2

Check out Death's world in this Darksiders II video

Here's a video of Vigil Games chatting about the world it's created for Darksiders II. You'll get to learn a little bit about the concept for certain locations, as well hear a lot of boasting about how huge the environment is. Apparently if the first game was the Moon, this is Earth. Oooh! Still really looking forward to this sucker, so I've nothing to add. What about you lot?
