Take a chance on Defiance now that it's going free-to-play

To me, Defiance always looked like one of those games I'd probably enjoy a lot more if I didn't have to pay a monthly fee for it. The show didn't strike me as too great, but I figured I'd give the game a go if it ever went do...

End of Nations has been turned into a MOBA

Remember End of Nations? It was that awesome looking free-to-play real time strategy game from Trion and it was something I was really looking forward to. The huge sense of scale and battles looked actually exciting. The game...

NPD: Injustice and Dead Island lead sales in April

[DC zombie sculpts by Casey Love Designs] The NPD Group released US sales data for April 2013 two days ago, but a complete lack of enthusiasm on the part of the Destructoid staff has delayed our posting it. Not our fault! Loo...

Impressions: Defiance photo
Impressions: Defiance
by Fraser Brown

Please pardon the lazy portmanteau, but Defiance has sapped me of a great deal of my creativity. I'm tired, friends. The new MMO -- that's desperately trying not to be an MMO -- from Trion Worlds has toyed with me for the last two weeks, and I won't pretend I'm not glad to be done with it.

But here's the kicker: I really wanted to like the ugly bastard. It's a grotty, confused construct that doesn't really know what it wants to be, and it trips up all the bleeding time. Yet it genuinely tries to do away with a lot of MMO tropes. Tries and fails, admittedly.

So, if you'll just sit there and have a wee read, I'll tell you about my journey through the hideous, terraformed facsimile of the San Francisco Bay area, and of my hard won battles and all the times where I got disconnected.

The first two days of Defiance

Defiance, Trion Worlds's post-apocalyptic MMO shooter, came out a couple of days ago, and I've been courting it. We've gone on a few dates, but we're still getting to know each other, so it will likely be a couple of weeks un...

Gain an unfair advantage with the Defiance scavenger hunt photo
Gain an unfair advantage with the Defiance scavenger hunt
by Niero Gonzalez

This week we're sponsored by Defiance, an MMO by Trion Worlds collaborating with Syfy, whose on-air and in-game worlds both share the same paced story progression.  The TV show and game launch on April 15th, and we've got some in-game bonuses you can unlock to get a bit of a boost from day one. I've hidden five easy to find codes around Destructoid. The other five ... not so much. Good luck with that.

How to Win:

Ten Arkfall codes are scattered around Destructoid, and each code can be redeemed multiple times. You can help each other locate the location of each code in the comments below. I'll give you a hint: start with our Defiance database page.  Five of the power-ups are easy to find ... and as the other five you may need help from people that eat sleep and breathe Dtoid.

Here's how to claim your rewards in the game launch:

  • Go to Defiance.com/arkhunter and register, or log in with your existing Trion account.
  • Once you have signed up you can start entering codes and unlocking your rewards.
  • Each time you find a new code go back to Defiance.com/game and select the ‘MY EGO’ tab and enter your code. There are a total of 15 rewards to unlock.
  • Your rewards will be granted in the game at launch. Good luck!
