Chop up and equip your enemy's body parts in Severed photo
Chop up and equip your enemy's body parts in Severed
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Severed is the next game from DrinkBox Studios, the creators of Mutant Blobs Attack and Guacamelee! Severed follows a distraught warrior trying to piece together a mystery, such as how she wakes up missing part of her arm. You'll be exploring an open world, taking on enemies through gesture-based controls in first-person, and along your quest you'll gain new powers by severing and attaching your enemies' body parts to yourself.

The nonlinear aspect in this dungeon-crawler adventure will give you control over the upgrade paths, allowing you to take on a variety of enemies with different strengths and weaknesses. As the developers explained it to me, think Severed as a cross between Mega Man, Infinity Blade, and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out

Yep, The Evil Within is going to be one super creepy game alright photo
Yep, The Evil Within is going to be one super creepy game alright
by Hamza CTZ Aziz

Oh The Evil Within, how I can't wait for you to scare the every living daylights out of me. Shinji Mikami's past games were my first tastes of the survival horror genre, and I'm quite looking forward to see what he does with his latest title.

The newest gameplay trailer here is full of monsters, scares, and all sorts of spooky things. Including a dude that has a safe for a head. Also can we talk about how great the promotional art for this game is? The face with barbwire is creepy enough, but then you notice the letter T is heading downward to pierce the eye. So good.

The Evil Within will be out on August 26 in North America, August 28 in Australia, and August 29 in Europe for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

LEGO The Hobbit now available photo
LEGO The Hobbit now available
by Conrad Zimmerman

Warner Bros. has released LEGO: The Hobbit to retailers in North America today, with a European release coming on April 11. As one might expect, new marketing materials have been released for the game, including the above launch trailer.

There was once a part of me that was pretty disappointed when the LEGO game franchise implemented full voice acting for the characters. The non-verbal communication techniques used in earlier games always struck a chord with me, and their comic effect was exploited to great success. That said, I'm over it. The voice-over work is just great in this, and I'm not looking back anymore.

Huge open world and endless customization define The Crew photo
Huge open world and endless customization define The Crew
by Casey Baker

The developers of The Crew have an unusual take on their new IP that features fast cars, deep customization, and miles and miles of the United States to traverse across and race within. Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections insist that despite its trappings that would suggest an open world racing game in the same vein as the latest in the Need for Speed series or Forza Horizons, The Crew is actually an MMO RPG.

When first presented with this concept at a recent Ubisoft event, I was a little skeptical that a racing game could be classified as such, given that it doesn't necessarily involve giant monsters and upgradeable weapons, and certainly bears no fantastical setting. However, after getting an hour long hands-on with the new game and witnessing the number of ways that this separates itself from its ilk, I could definitely see how it could be deserving of this different classification.

In The Crew, your vastly upgradeable and customizable car is your weapon. The giant monster you perpetually battle is the road, in several different kinds of events and spanning a seemingly large storyline across five enormous regions of the United States.

And like all MMO RPG's, The Crew is so much better with friends.

Broforce now available on Steam Early Access
by Conrad Zimmerman

I really want Broforce in my life. As of today, that can be a reality as the game has launched in Steam Early Access. You may now feel free to exchange $14.99 for the ability to play on PC or Mac.

A new trailer has also been released to stoke any flames of desire you may presently hold for platform shooters, with examples of environmental destruction, special abilities and a whole lot of explosions. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go grab my wallet.

Mario Kart 8 is stunning and fierce in HD photo
Mario Kart 8 is stunning and fierce in HD
by Alessandro Fillari

As an institution within the videogame racing genre, Mario Kart has always been an example of what arcade style racing is all about. Focusing on simple, pick up and play gameplay, while still offering high level skill based action, the Mario Kart series has been going strong for over twenty years; and it doesn't seem like it'll stop any time soon.

Now, the series is finally taking its first steps onto an HD platform, and after spending about an hour of playtime with it, I just don't see how they can go back after this. I'm just going to come right out and say it: Mario Kart 8 is one gorgeous game.

As the first full HD release of the series, the developers at Nintendo went the extra mile with creating a game that is visually spectacular, but also the most content rich game of the series.

PS Vita rhythm game IA/VT Colorful sure looks like an acid trip

Hatsune Miku may be the queen of digital songstresses, but she's by no means the only act in town. Many are looking to join the party, like IA/VT Colorful, a rhythm game starring vocaloid idol IA. The musical title features 60 different tracks to get players bumping and grinding when the game arrives in Japan on July 31. Marvelous AQL has yet to announce a western release.
